What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Quote: I'm listening to Staring at the Sea right now! Although I'm listening to my own remastered version, compiled from all their remastered releases. The only song that has yet to be remastered is "Killing an Arab." The original tracks from Staring at the Sea is quite terrible, "Primary,"... -
YOUR Top 10 Albums
Quote: Oh gosh, Mansun was friggin' great. The first two albums are dazzling complex in arrangement and concept. Little Kix was alright. Too bad they burnt out so fast. I gotta dig out my old CDs and EPs again. -

Explain your avatar
I'm a Freemason... hence my avatar. :) In the past years I've had everything from a cartoonized Robert Smith of The Cure from South Park, various album covers (mostly The Cure... natch), I think Sony Eggos, Etys, and a photoshopped self portrait of myself wearing an Oakley Medusa...- bong

YOUR Top 10 Albums
Quote: I haven't listened to Tubeway Army/Gary Numan in a while... forgotten how good Telekon is. People always go for Replicas or The Pleasure Principle, to me Telekon is his best. Anyhoo... since I'm revisiting this thread, here's my current Top 10: Joy Division - Closer... -
Who is "Your Band"
Quote: Nice! I love almost anything Brett Anderson does, from Suede, The Tears, to his minimalist solo stuff. His last album Slow Attack was great. I was really into The Smiths back then too, but never really got into Morrissey solo stuff. -
Decided to give the guitar a second try. Any tips?
Despite the endless ads, Ultimate-Guitar is a good site to start with... look up some of your favourite songs, learn some basic chord shapes, and you're good to go. 8notes.com is useful to look up chord diagrams as well. And whatever guitar you get, invest in a capo. Have fun! -
Who is "Your Band"
Ain't no secret... for me it's definitely The Cure, by a long shot. The Cure is the one and only band that has stayed with me since the late 80's while everything else I loved either broke up (Ride, Suede), faded away (Starsailor), or became irrelevant (New Order). -
A good ramen noodle movie
The first thing I thought of when I read the thread title was Tampopo! Great movie... I remember when I first saw Tampopo I was an undergrad at an art school, we had a movie festival and were showing movies involving food. Another movie that I watched that week was The Cook, The Thief, His...- bong

The Black Celebration album by Depeche Mode. I think I'll listen to all their remastered albums this week. -
When the Music's Over
The 80's were not a pathetic decade... it was one of the most exciting decades in music. I think it's unfair to say any decade has bad music, sometimes you just have to delve deeper to find good music that's not apparently available. I do agree that the rock music scene is fragmented these...- bong

Just to get a feel as to who's in this community...
Quote: LOL... I break up parties, just like I break hearts. But seriously, I'm usually really cool with the students. It's just when they violate University and public laws and policies, I'm forced into a position where I have to do my job. I tell them it's not about me or them, but...- bong

Quote: Heh... I had that sig for years! As for my students, they make fun of my middle name all the time. It's when they're hitting the bong (the thing, not me... well, if they hit me too), I need to expel them off campus.- bong

Quote: Haha... it's my middle name, I swear! I'm Chinese, you see... Ironically, I'm the one who adjudicate students with illegal substance possession, which obviously is a University violation, and end up expelling them from campus.- bong

Great albums with vocoder!
First thing that comes to mind would be The Man Machine by Kraftwerk... a must have album, vocoder or otherwise. Might sound a bit dated these days but it's a classic album. Another classic song comes to mind that features the vocoder is "O Superman" by performance artist Laurie... -

Crystal- The Last Great New Order Song
Hmm... I'd have to say the last great New Order song would be "Waiting for the Siren's Call" off the album of the same name. It's got a lovely melody and a great coda... was released as a single but wasn't a big hit. As for "Crystal,"it's a great song, pretty rockin' for New Order. For...
