adjusting level of WAV files in Audacity
Go to effect-> amplify- > there you can choose the level of amplification in +/- dB, I think it will automatically default to the highest level without clipping (confirmed, make sure the allow clipping box is not ticked), if you want higher level tick the box and then if use the hard limiter in...- Ro-amp

DT 990 and DT 990 Pro?
I choose the DT990 pro for it's supposedly recess midrange, I'm using HRTF software and it adds midrange... Haven't had the chance to hear them yet, business travel, just can't wait... According to this the pro would be very good bang for the buck...- Ro-amp

OP, I hear the same thing as you...flabby & muffled, I removed the earpad foam not much of a change, I'm selling them. Headphones makes the biggest difference in sound, if they don't sound right to you from the start, move on, don't waste time & money! My SHR840 are such a great can, I'm...- Ro-amp

...to sound the same (was focusing on high frequency), the highest tone in your sample is the triangle and i would venture that it would hover in the 4-5-6khz range, I don't hear anything higher than that in your sample... just being honest ;-) ***I usually hear 10khz @ -35 db no problem...- Ro-amp

Fubar III is Fubar
OK, you tried another PC, no light on the Fubar? (important info that you should have mentioned previously) I'm not aware of a reset, however may be there is a fuse, is it blowned? I think older Fubar models had fuses, not sure. I have a Cute Beyond ('09) & fubar IV SE ('09) no fuse in neither...- Ro-amp

Klipsch S4 vs. NuForce NE-6
I've never heard the ne-6s but I have the s4. they probably will fit what you're looking for pretty well; their bass is very solid but does not creep up on mids... And they are very very comfortable...a very fun easy to listen to ear bud... cheers- Ro-amp

Song/track to test headphone ?
I would say it's more about instrument that you know very well...by having listened to them live close & personal (or played), ie; garage jam, rock club, auditorium, concert hall, etc... The open Your Ears album has a good selection of tracks... The percussion imaging test is great... Listen...- Ro-amp

Finally time to put Rio Karma to bed - replacement suggestions?
A Rockboxed iPod video 60/80g will give you all of that and more...car settings, crossfeed, parametric equalizer, etc. If you want to watch video all you have to do is reboot in iPod mode, that's right both operating system are on board and can be used indepedently...
