I guess it's all what you're used to. I've been reading Srajan's stuff for years now. I'd much rather have a review with too much verbosity than not enough.- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

The single input tube looks like a NOS General Electric 6SN7. Nice clean extended high end, good low end grunt. Good choice.- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

RAAL-requisite CA-1a Circum-Aural Ribbon Headphone is here! @HeadAmp
Me neither. The mid-range became smeared and suffered noticeably from a lack of definition. No bueno.- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

I associate proper timbre to mean a transducer that easily discerns the uniqueness in pitch and tone differences in varying instruments including voice while playing similar notes. My $.02- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

...and this is why I got immersed into this hobby over 40 years ago. Recordings are different from one another....often drastically different. I yearn to hear these differences. Poorly recorded, 2-dimensional efforts should sound like it, just as a beautifully crafted recording should soar...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

Yup. The curse, if there is such a thing, of having a very revealing transducer is that the sonic characteristics of what comes before it will be spotlit, warts and all. Depending on how carefully you've assembled your system as a whole, will determine whether that particular headphone will be a...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

About 25-30% here. That's my sweet spot. Any further and I lose the fundamental of the instruments, much more closed than that, and the lower mid-range begins to get a little sloppy and less defined.- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

I think Alek mentioned that he gained some new insight to an open-baffle design, but that he didn't yet know how to incorporate it, and that such a design is far off in the future. I read that to mean there is nothing being worked on currently.- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

^^^^^This in spades. I've never been to a meet the size of CanJam where I was able to make wholesale judgements on the sound of a headphone or anything upstream of it. If one goes, go with the idea that you'll meet new people with mutual interests, see and handle new product, and get some...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

You do know that a good deal of what Srajan has been espousing over there in that preview, has been lifted verbatim from these very pages. That said, it's no secret that 300B-fronted amplifiers can be magical sounding pieces when designed properly. The only pair of ears that matter, though, are...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

That's a great amp. I had an ATM-300R with a pair of WE 300B's in it. Wonderful music came from it.- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

I completely agree. While it's great that RAAL made available the TI-1b & c transformers for those that want to dip their toe in without committing to a dedicated amplifier, I personally would only use an interface if I had no other amplification options available to me. The less things in the...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

RAAL 1995 Immanis
You asked a question of the forum of whether or not the CA-1 will still be relevant in YOUR collection if you buy the Immanis. I merely responded that only the specific individual can truly answer that question. Nobody hears the same thing....nor has the same priorities. Some people own 50+...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

That's an question only each individual can make for themselves. For myself, I only have one headphone I do critical listening on. It's my best headphone, and gets my closer to the realism of the event than my other headphone...which I use in a different part of my home, and even then, only to...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe

The beauty of the input tubes are that they can often make as marked a difference in the sound as an output tube. The NOS tubes Danny refers to can be quite expensive, but the nice thing is that they far outlast the output tube in longevity, and therefore, even the pricey ones are worthwhile to...- cAsE sEnSiTiVe
