New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Hi, I find frequency response graphs useful and refer to them regularly, but they only tell me where the emphasis will be in a headphone's spectrum of sound and not the tonal characteristics.....how (real) they sound. FR is a measure of the fundamental frequencies and not the various harmonics...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I find sound demos help quite a lot in relative terms, so not much great with a demo of just one set of headphones, but when a group are compared I find it helpful to gauge roughly where each sits in terms of presentation. Of course, if I have one of the headphones in the comparison then that is...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

No worries, I didn't take anything as a criticism...it's a really interesting discussion. What I'm observing here and in various YouTube comments is that most people who have heard the 900 Pro X and given their impressions have actually described it pretty similarly, though some like those...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

For the avoidance of any doubt, I was referring to the 900 Pro X and not the 700 Pro X, which I have not heard. Also, these observations were largely in comparison to my 990 Pro and TYGR's and only how I personally find them. I also find the AKG K371's shouty and everybody else seems to love...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Similar to my overall findings with the 900 Pro X, in comparison with my DT 990's (250 & 600 ohm). No sparkle, too hard and 'shouty' for my liking and, yes I think I know what you mean about them playing in your head....sound a bit compressed almost, with the midrange dominating and reduced...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Assume this is about the 900's and yes, agree with all that you say here (well not sure about the heat thing....maybe). But, in particular, it is the midrange forwardness that caught me off guard and I'm not sure I'm going to get used to that enough to allow me to really enjoy these. Strangely...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Okay, was trying to resist, but......I couldn't. Just tried swapping the foam inserts with a spare set of the DT 990 ones, (exactly same size, perfect fit), but the sound just became harsher/harder and more steely sounding, rather than more sparkly. I think perhaps the foam swap boosted the...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Yes, I agree. They only sound better than 990's, to me, with tracks that were already too bright, but other stuff now sounds a bit too dull for me and, yes, they do sound more closed in and less spacious, which I guess is due to them being less V shaped. I'm sure many will prefer this tonality...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Yes, I know what you mean and completely agree with your last paragraph. Let me just say then that the DT 900 Pro X is definitely not as bright as the DT 990 Pro. Whether reduced enough or not for you I obviously could not say and yes you would need to test. It's not confirmation bias or...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Honestly, I've not heard a DT1990, but the DT990 (600 and 250 ohm) are my regular drivers and the DT900 Pro X has significantly less treble, to the point where I would even EQ it up a tad. To me, the tonality is quite different, as the DT900 does not have the same V shaped sound and the mids are...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I've got the 770 Pro (80 ohm), 990 Pro (250 and 600 ohm) and the new 900 Pro X. Compared to the 770, the 990 bass is reduced but there is still a bass boost and more so than most other open back 'audiophile' type headphones. In terms of the general sense of how 'bassy' the 900 Pro X sounds...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Yes, I only have one pair of AKG headphones, the K371's, but for me they share this same kind of hardness, which is making some of what I used to enjoy listening to less enjoyable/comfortable now. Oh, and try adjusting these back and forth on your head....expect this will vary depending on...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

I've done some more listening and our observations match very closely. Whereas previously I stopped at just saying that the amount of bass was about the same, I can now add that it seems a little more defined than the 990 Pro (both 250 and 600ohm variants). I definitely agree about being less V...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Just wanted to add that the tonality shifts quite a lot as you move the cups backwards and forwards on your head (obviously ignoring the extremes), not so much up and down. Yes, I know they all do this to some extent, but it's probably more noticeable with these than some others. Also, there is...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Received the 900 Pro X today. Compared to my 990's (both 250 and 600 ohm), my very initial and somewhat crude impressions are that the bass is about the same, the mids are less scooped (less 'v') and the treble is distinctly reduced. Feels rolled off compared to the 990's, but still more present...
