iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane
My ZS came with iPower 9V, which I've never used as I ended up with an extra 15v iPower X when I received a replacement iPhono 3 from iFi. I must say that ZS with the iPower X sounds superb, and have never had any issues.- windplr

Yes, I'm using the Ares II with the ZS over USB. Roon, Qobuz and flac files. Sounds outstanding, no issues at all.- windplr

iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane
FYI weird glitch last night. I was listening to something and glanced at the ZS, the LED that shows active streaming was off. Yet I was hearing music. When I tried to power the unit off using a long press on the button, the unit would not turn off. Re-powering by pulling the out the power...- windplr

I can't remember. Does the ZS hardware prevent using the SPDIF output if USB is also connected? I was going to do some a/b testing for sound quality between USB and SPDIF/COAX. But I was never able to get the coax to work unless I disconnected USB and restarted the ZS.- windplr

I've used the ZS as an excuse to try Roon. I've had no dropouts, it has worked perfectly. I switched the ZS to setting 2 for Roon only mode. Everything is on wifi, including the server. Roon also works in my environment where I am always connected to a VPN. Some networked apps don't like that.- windplr

I did it this way and no problems at all. It simplifies things not having to start the unit as a hotspot, just for configuration. Once on your network (wired), Just http to the device and you can select the wifi and enter the password. Upgrade for me worked ok. It does take a little time and...- windplr

Since my ZS delivery has been delayed by Fedex, again, (POS company), I won't be able to talk about it directly. But a comment or two on this thread. The ZS is essentially a small computer with specialized hardware. The hardware stuff is generally easy to talk about. Like the LEDs don't come...- windplr

I think what Volumio is trying to do is admirable. And it does work well for me, most of the time. But support is iffy, and as I said before it lacks some features that Roon has, music discovery being high on my list. An interesting enhancement/alternative for the Zen Stream would be a native...- windplr

Yes, It think it is around $45/yr. One of the reasons I'm going to give Roon a try is that I'm disappointed in some of the Volumio implementation and feature set. Even though Roon is significantly more money ($120/yr).- windplr
