iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane
Jul 26, 2021 at 5:04 AM Post #661 of 5,934
Interestingly I think my previous issues with skipping/jumping were due to my Stream still using wifi even though it was plugged in to Ethernet. Since turning wifi off it’s been fine with Tidal and have now left it on AIO so I can use airplay as well (which is good as I’ve recently been trying out Primephonic which is great for classical!).

Easily the best upgrade I’ve made to my setup in the past couple of years, the convenience of not having to plug in my iPad / PC means I’m listening more often and having the two USB ports means I can have both of my DAC’s plugged in now that my Topping stack has arrived.

A suggestion would be to have the wifi disabled when Ethernet plugged in, not sure there is any use case where you’d want both?

Well, if you insist I will make a 7th post on how mqa problems don't affect me. What I see is you complaining about worthless things all day long, including responding in an aggressive way to me.

But you know what, I don't care because the zen stream is working perfectly fine for my use. So keep ranting about jitter and apple crap not working. It makes me smile and I will enjoy even more listening to music through this wonderfull gear.

Have a nice day.
I agree the ZS is wonderful gear as I have said so since like page 5 of this thread, I also have no issues with the ZS.

However I will point out that if your going to call me out for being "aggressive" in my responses, or "Ranting" about something, I would ask you to please read more than where you came into this thread. I have made no rants about anything, other than the thread going off topic like "optical jitter" which has Zero to do with the ZS.

The Apple posts were to try and help a fellow member with his issue in apple music, a problem which is now being looked into by iFi, so I can't see how that is unhelpful.

As far as addressing or Insulting MQA, again you are wrong I happen to enjoy MQA, commenting on their changing narrative, and inconsistent story is not ranting, and also that was again in response to a member who was having issues. I could give to craps if my display says OFS, MQA, or UYA...really doesn't matter to me as long as it sounds good.

Let me know at some point when you go and subscribe to a service just to try and help another member! Let me know when you download every app discussed to try and help other members, even though you don't need them one bit....

Now I'm ranting, try not to insult me unless you want it back, as I have only been trying to help....

You have a nice day as well!

Since my ZS delivery has been delayed by Fedex, again, (POS company), I won't be able to talk about it directly. But a comment or two on this thread. The ZS is essentially a small computer with specialized hardware. The hardware stuff is generally easy to talk about. Like the LEDs don't come on, or the PSU is not putting out the correct voltage, or I can't connect via wifi. The software discussion, on the other hand, can get quite complex very quickly. Often because we think we know what is going on, but it turns out to be something else entirely. It is also a function of the complex mix of 1) where the ZS sits in the audio chain, 2) a confusing mix of protocols and standards, and 3) lack of visibility of the underlying processes. So while I think that a small part of this thread may be a bit "off topic", most of it, even TIDAL and ROON topics, as they pertain to the ZS, are very relevant.

Hey I got it, if you're not going to use the WiFi antenna, modify it and glue that to the switch.

I mean...

I don't think this is something iFi can allow or not. It's just how TIDAL Connect works on all platforms. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I kicked off an email to Tidal Tech Support yesterday to find out what gives, hopefully I get an intelligent answer.

I would have to extra confirm, but I am pretty sure we are not allowed to choose that. I'll see if there is anything I can say publicly as to why.

So ‘OFS’ is a fully unfolded MQA file with first unfold on the Zen and others steps on the DAC?

This is correct!

Is it only me that thinks iFi would have designed it with a knob on the front plate for switching exclusive modes? Perhaps to take off those letter "stream" and put the knob on the middle of the front plate. If it does software process switching I guess we could switch them on the fly while the device is switched on.

We appreciate the suggestions and take them all into account!

Kodi hasn't been called XBMC for years now. You might want to update that. Sorry for nit picking.
Love my Zen Stream though. It's absolutely brilliant. Has worked flawlessly and I still, everyday notice how much better it sounds than my PC

Thank you!!!!

Hi, everyone,

I use roon essential and it seems that my ifi stream is not displayed because it is not yet roon ready 😩
Is there any information about when the stream will be roon ready?
I am currently listening to airplay and am enthusiastic about the sound quality ..... I exchanged the power supply for an sbooster, which noticeably increased the quality.
it is connected to my Devialet 200 via USB, which is superior to the spdif.

greetings to all Werryslow

I wonder if a DDC, like Matrix SPDIF2, could be inserted between ZS and a dac, offering more connection options?
Ya think ifi would ever make one of these gizmo's?
