Although I prefer my yamaha eph-100s, I still use my gr06s everyday. The sound quality is great for the price. Although I don't think my opinion will be of much help since I don't really listen to a lot of rock or metal.

Depends on the extension cable you're using. If you're worried about sound quality, I suggest getting a cheap amp like the fiio e6 instead of a extension cable.

You might want to take a look at the ATH-M50s. The sound quality and bass are excellent for its price range. If I remember correctly, soundprofessionals sells them for around $100.
