New title - Why do you need to try high end cables?

Quote: O.K.  I bit.  At your suggestion, I destroyed all my possessions and fake wealth. (I'm typing this from the library).     I'm mentally detached and feeling pretty primal. I've arranged to borrow some audio gear, but alas, I've hit a roadblock.   I forgot to save the...

Can the burn-in skeptics leave us alone?

Quote: We should respect it, but only for what it is, a contaminant in the petri dish.  We should acknowledge its existence and account for it, but only while recognizing its nature and the detrimental effects it has upon the processes used to discern objective truth.

Can the burn-in skeptics leave us alone?

Quote: I'm aware that fraudulent studies exist and some have not been found out. That is beside the point of your original contention that any studies supporting the existence of burn in will be automatically and necessarily ignored or otherwise not taken seriously due to the...

    Audiophile cables, an interesting question.

Quote: Hmmm... I got it in an email. Not even knowing the particulars, other than what's been posted here, but having experience in private-label and custom manufacturing, it was a very lame defense that also hinged on at least one major logical fallacy. So I just arrived, loaded...

Getting "called-out" for not wearing the Beats

Quote: Yeah, if nobody notices them, they're less a target. But if nobody notices them, what's the point of having them in the first place?     What a dilemma.

Can the burn-in skeptics leave us alone?

Quote: Sorry, but this shows you have a fundamental misunderstanding of science and the scientific method.  If the science is done properly, it would be repeatable and verifiable and peer-reviewed. Thus, the initial researcher's connection to industry would be rendered a moot point...

Beat Headphones for PC Gaming and Rap/Drum&Bass/Electronica/Dubstep

Quote: Am I missing something here?  You can get two sets of headphones, each of them nearly ideal for the separate tasks they would be expected to perform. The total cost would be less than half of what a single headphone would be, and that single headphone would, in effect, be a...

Getting "called-out" for not wearing the Beats

Quote: I've not spent $600 on a jacket but, since we're OT anyway, I have to jump in and defend Patagonia a little here. About 12 years ago I went through about a 4-5 year period where I was doing some pretty extreme condition camping/sailing/kayaking, all year round and regardless...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Quote: Go with the Panasonics. The Samsons are UNcomfortable. They're clones of the Superlux 681's and very bassy as well.  For anything short of a fully open set, the Panny's soundstage is very good.  I'd say it's as good, or better than the 668B's which should be at least as good...

Need headphones, $100 budget (will buy used)

Where did you find the Superlux 668B for $85? That's a crazy expensive price for them. I've recently seen them at $40 and never over $50.  They're, IMO, an upgrade to the Sampsons, which are basically identical to the 681's in terms of S.Q..

    HALLOWEEN!

You have trick or treaters?  I haven't seen one of those in probably 10 years. I quit buying candy after several years of no demand. In fact, I had forgotten completely what day it was until I saw your post. Sad what parental and media hysteria has done to a holiday that, in my day, was...

The quest for the most comfortable headphones.

The Senn HD5XX series is really comfy, IMO.  Good soundstage too, so gamers like them.   For the ultimate in comfort, I would nominate the Sony MD-F1's.  I don't know if they're still made, but I've seen them on Ebay recently and they can still be ordered online. For almost 5 years I wore...

    Superlux Express Train

Quote: I searched ebay and couldn't find them anywhere near that cheap.  Do you have a link or seller's name?  I have a 668B. I assume they 662F's will use the same size earpads? TIA.

Does anyone know a headphone that fits this

80-90% of what I listen to is rock and blues. I'll second the Panasonic HTF-600's.  They're plenty open.  I can hear everything just fine with them on.  I also have the Superlux 668B's (which are $50 and an upgrade from the 681 series) but I like the Panasonics better for most music and way...
