    La Figaro 339

I think EQ'ing bass on the HD800 is a great idea and I've pretty much always done that. I think EQ'ing treble or mids on it is a bad idea. The spectacular treble and headstage is because the driver is great but also because of careful design that takes into account all the frequency resonances...

    La Figaro 339

I'd do it. It's trivial to install and you'll wonder how you lived without it. That 6k peak is so painfully fierce on the stock can I've never for 10 seconds looked back.

    La Figaro 339

I've heard the HD800S and prefer my HD800+SDR. The bass is cleaner and it doesn't muck with what makes the headphone good. Depending on what tubes MJ2 had the bass can have very good extension and you can EQ some bass back into the HD800, just don't EQ the mids or treble. If they're still too...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Having a balanced cable is great because you can always use the same cable with a SE adapter if you want to listen on a SE device. You cannot go the other way though. If we're talking about Schiit, only delta-sigma DAC I've heard is the 4490 G2 card but I strongly prefer Modi MB over it. I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Agreed. I've only used Rag 2's SE pre-outs to feed a pair of Bose computer speakers, which are active, so it's not a fair evaluation. The Pre-out's sound great is about all I can report on that!

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I have both Rag 2, MJ2, Gungnir MB and I've heard Rag 2 with the multibit DAC card and my Gungnir MB. First, the point about summing is accurate. MJ2 SE output utilizes summing resulting in lower power, and to my ears, smaller headstage and reduced clarity vs the balanced output. You can hear...

Rag 2 and friends are marked safe after the earthquake. Hope everyone else is safe!

Kaldas Research RR 1 Conquest ($500 Electrostatic)

Great pictures of what looked like a great experience. Congrats! The Kaldas booth was the highlight of the show for me. I think what you've created in the RR1 is really great and look forward to seeing what comes next.

    Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread

One of the most observable differences I thought at CanJam this year was how many LCD-4z's there were at vendor tables. Easy to drive yes, but I think it's also that it sounds great. I'd say about now it's 4z, Ether 2, Meze Empyrean and Focal Utopia that rule the roost. Haven't heard Verite but...

    CanJam SoCal 2019 Impressions thread

Interesting, because I was actually talking with the Sennheiser rep about how much more mellow the HE1 booth was this year. Last year I thought they did way more pompous theatrics. Additionally, they let you use Tidal this year instead of their limited sound library. Overall, I thought it was a...

    ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion

Add the QUAD PA-One+ as a potential amp choice for the Ether 2's. You'd think a tube amp would be a lousy choice for a planar but not here. Lots of bass and some extra tube harmonics in the mids to thicken the sound up. Rag 2 is probably the best amp for the headphone but I'm actually having a...

Kaldas Research RR 1 Conquest ($500 Electrostatic)

It's also fair to note that some have commented that the amp choice does have a noticeable impact on the RR1.

    CanJam SoCal 2019 Impressions thread

Kaldas Research - RR1 Conquest was the biggest show surprise for me. Sounded great with the Mjolnir amp. I was expecting nothing and immediately was astonished. Great electrostat sound for not a lot of money. Prefer it over Stax 009, the RR1 has much deeper bass. I was instructed they go down to...

Kaldas Research RR 1 Conquest ($500 Electrostatic)

Smartest thing Kaldas could do right now besides marketing is to find a partner that can provide a cheap e-stat energizer and/or e-stat amp they can package with the headphones. If they can produce a complete e-stat headphone+amp package below $999 I think that would make a few headlines.

Kaldas Research RR 1 Conquest ($500 Electrostatic)

Was there at CanJam and listened to the RR1's on a Mjolnir amp. Both myself and my friend were very impressed. A lot of bass for an electrostat, lowest reaching I've heard besides Voce. Very fast, coming from a planar they hit you as dry but enjoyably so. I'm not an expert on electrostats or...
