Volume control in both models is the same - digital, built-in sabre chip. It should drive power amplifiers exactly the same.

Preamp section in spring 3 is active and it will be a lot easier to implement spring 3 into tipical system. On the other hand gustard for best sound requires high input impedance of power amplifier. 100k and above.

Unfortunately it seems that the implementation of high-end chips used in the 005 is wrong and the analog stage is too weak for the 2 x ess9038.

You could lower the level to 1.5v by using the digital volume control built-in ess9038.
