I've no advice only to say that I too was pretty disappointed at how much more expensive ATH seem to be over here (Ireland and UK), I was almost going to order a set of ATH A700 yesterday but you can get them in the states for around $100 or just over but here they were costing about €170!!

Hmm I did like the bass on my CX300-II... I've read about the mids being recessed in the A700s alright, ideally it would be best to try them out somewhere but there doesn't seem to be anywhere around here that has any more pricy headphones available to try out which is a big pain! The thing is...

The HD600s are selling for around £250 where I'm ordering so they're a bit out of my price range at the moment and I have no amp so I don't think they'll work for me. Definitely swaying towards the ATH A700s the more I read on them (and they look pretty nice too I think which is a bonus!)
