My Bose QuietComfort 20 are on their last legs, maybe buy the same model? I want wired ones. Budget is roughly $400 USD. The Shure 425s caught my attention, worth it?

Cables are fine, I'm pretty sure. As I said the thing is that the left speaker and right speaker have their own dedicated red/white RCA to 3.5mm and a laptop can only accommodate one at a time of these through the single headphone jack. So I was wondering if a splitter would work, or any other...

But the system has one Red and White RCA cable for each respective sides, Left and Right; and as you may know laptops only have a single headphone jack, so I can only hear one speaker at a time. Would an adapter make it work? Here's what I was roughly entertaining purchasing...

Looking at something to watch movies with, do buying guides for gaming or music somehow apply?   Also the device is an Apple iPad 3, so I'm assuming that it's going to bottleneck at some point? As in, expensive earbuds quickly reach diminishing marginal returns?   Budget is roughly $120 USD.
