After much tugging and pulling I finally got it out.  Let this be a cautionary tale to people who use the HD650 cable on HD600s.

It's baffling.  The other cable end came out but only after pulling with a substantial amount of force.  I'm thinking of epoxying a pushpin to the flattened plastic bit to see if it'll let me pull hard enough to remove it.   Quote:
