    Schiit Kara - Impressions Thread

Funny thing happened today while I was listening to music: I was having fun with some tunes (new Kara owner here). :)

    Schiit Kara - Impressions Thread

I now own a Kara. It sounds very good driving 1) my active Yamaha speakers or 2) my AHB2 power amp feeding a pair of Triangle speakers. I'm using it in passive mode and x4 gain mode.

An incredible journey to a solution. Thanks for sharing!

    Schiit Midgard - Impressions Thread

As a newbie I had to double check what that XLR connector was all about. It is a 4 pin XLR connector and I had to double check all that when I ordered my balanced cable for my Neumann headphones. So my query is this: do you have a 4 pin XLR cable? I know, newbie question, at least for me.

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I haven't read everything since we are exchanging messages, but have you tried reversing the AC blades of the RME ADI-2's power supply plugged into your power conditioner. It's a long shot, but if you haven't tried it, it is something I would try....you know, leave no stone unturned.

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

It is perplexing for sure. To wit, the Benchmark AHB2 is a very quiet power amplifier and the RME ADI-2 DAC FS comes in at a very low noise floor (you can check the measurements over at ASR) - and I cannot detect any noise at all with various settings being changed. I'm wondering if simply...

NITSCH x Schiit Pietus Maximus Release/Impressions Thread

There was a time when maximum power transfer occurs when source impedance = load impedance = ohm's law calculations in a series circuit. I know we all want low source impedance in order to have the higher damping factor possible, with all it's benefits, but what you say seems to impart an...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I did a bit more reading. XLR outputs: RME is (+ HOT) and (- Cold); Ayre is (+ non inverting) and (- Inverting). All good. Question for you: are you using the same interconnects between preamps when you test? Gotta make sure those are good for both units. Also double check the phase and...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I was curious about your amplifier and came across a review that states that there is power conditioning on board your amplifier and there is a communication link between Amp + Preamp. If the power amp is trying to communicate with something that is not there, could that be the source of your...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I've dealt with a bad hum on a Heathkit AA-151 tube amp rebuild; along with improper capacitor selections. It took me 2 weeks to figure out...but we figured it out....but took 2 WEEKS. I was ready to give up until the solution popped in my brain one night - with kind help from a gentleman...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

It is a challenging issue for sure and it could be the AYRE gear is compatible between the units and finding a proper return feed that is somehow missing with the RME. I run a Benchmark AHB2 and I have absolutely no noise issue. But the fact that you do is noteworthy. I would not give up just...

If your amp is « on », why not leave RME ON? It does not consume a lot of power. 😀

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

The battery pack I use is called a TalentCell (made in China) and was recommended over at the RME forum. It is the model # LF4100 (read the instruction manual thoroughly before using). The only quirk is that you have to turn 'on' the unit when you are charging it. I think I paid about $100...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

    1. I would remove all connections points to the RME, with the exception of XLRs to your amp and test again. 2. RME does not have a ground point, so with it powered off I'm assuming some return signal cannot find a path to ground. 3. I wonder if you installed one RCA patch cord between the RME...

    Neumann NDH 30

I have NDH-30. I like them as they are. I also have Beyer DT 990 pro. I like them (the DT 990) well enough with my RME; but not so much with the Midgard: isn't that strange? Or not! We all have preferences. The NDH-30, to my ears, is very nice. I will be curious to see what HD 490 Pro...
