Upgrade from AKG K7XX
Yeah I think that's the problem. I have heard quite a bit of setups and also went to canjam and honestly the only setup there that actually made me feel like I was listening to an actual upgrade over my akg were the Sennheiser hd800 on an enigma athena a1 amp. Nothing in the past year has truly...- gus6464

Upgrade from AKG K7XX
I am getting the itch to upgrade my AKG's but don't know what's new out there. Basically looking for another open can but they have to be extremely comfy like my AKG K7XX. I work from home so I wear my headphones 8-10 hours a day.- gus6464

Schiit SYS Passive Preamp
Kind of weird why a reverse passive preamp in this hobby isn't a normal thing. Tons of people that use headphones also have speakers they use from time to time as well.- gus6464

Schiit SYS Passive Preamp
So is using the SYS in reverse as simple as plugging the amps in the inputs and the dac on the output?- gus6464

Looking for a recommendation for my specific setup
I am in the process of redesigning my office and I am looking to add a speaker system to the setup. As of now I have been using O2/ODAC combo and of course it's superb. I am basically looking for a similar performance DAC/head amp but that also has balanced outputs to go to speakers. I want...- gus6464

Amp/dac for disappointed HD800 owner
At canjam the Athena A1 was paired with the hd800 and it was amazing. My favorite setup of the whole show. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk- gus6464

Best gear for listening to classical music...
Speakers with giant woofers and wide bandwidth compression driver on a waveguide or horn. Then use even larger woofers for the low end. Classical never sounded so good. Large orchestras can be incredibly dynamic and sad to say a speaker with small drivers just can't keep up.- gus6464

NEW 2015 - HIFIMAN HE400S
So here's a dumb question but the website does not say. Are these cans open or closed? By the pictures I am inclined to think open but not sure.- gus6464

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
So I take it they haven't been improved since their prototype at CanJam? At canjam they sounded super muddy with overblown midbass. I then listened to them again at RMAF and it was the same exact thing so I thought they were still in prototype stage. If those were retail units then the nighthawk...- gus6464

Let's Discuss Your Raspberry Pi Setups
Can anyone recommend a linear power supply that is pretty much plug and play that I can stick in a case to power a rpi2 with volumio and also power a nano idsd with split data and power? If not, I was just going to go with a 5V/5A meanwell medical grade SMPS unit.- gus6464

CanJam SoCal 2015 Impressions Thread
There really was only one headphone under $400 that caught my attention immediately and that was the Oppo PM-3. I already own the K7XX and those are just very hard to beat at $200. Am I the only one that though the EL-8 sounded really bad? The open version was ok but at $700 there is no way. At...- gus6464

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
The PM-3 is a lot of headphone for the price. Controlled bass and crisp highs. It's the kind of headphone that I could listen to for hours with no fatigue and it's pretty comfy. The EL-8 in it's current form is pretty bad IMO.- gus6464
