Looking to make the jump to vinyl

To the OP, I'd like to reinforce that YES, you can enjoy vinyl sound very adequately with a cheap, used, vintage TT and a new cart. I personally own a Dual 1237 from the 70's and just recently purchased a Grado Prestige Black cartridge for it. TT cost me 20 bucks and some elbow grease to...

Bliss and happiness on the cheap

Spending the day digging for cheap vinyl at yard sales, or record shops and coming home to play through them with a beer from a local brewery.

Headphone store w/ demos in south east michigan.

nullstring, I doubt this will help you too much, but Indianapolis isn't too terribly far from SE Michigan. If you feel up for the drive, Ovation on the Northside of Indianapolis has a great selection of Headphones. I know for sure they have Grados and Sennheisers, and I'm sure they have a few...

@Baines93: Thanks man. I love my Les Paul's too. @monolith: Yep, I think we furnished the entire room in IKEA. Have to save money for more records! The LP shelf you are asking about is the EXPEDIT turned on it's side. I also added the drawer units from ikea. I think you can get doors for it...

Here is my listening room. Sources are an old DENON CD player, an Onkyo Integra turntable, or an Apple Airport Express, streaming my digital collection. This all goes through my NAD C340 and then to either my Grado SR-80 or my vintage Bose 2.1 speakers. This is my favorite thread on head-fi...

    Craig's List TT find - how'd I do?

Congrats on snagging that old Technics. I love it when I find old vintage gear at a value. Once you decide on a cartridge, you should head over to Vinyl-Engine (if you haven't been there already) and download a cartridge alignment protractor. I was able to track one down for my vintage Onkyo...

New hybrid amp by Little Dot, I+

I had luck deoxidizing my vintage turtable cartridge contacts using a q-tip and some isopropyl. You might try De-Oxit, which is a deoxidizing agent that can be found fairly easily. I've seen it at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Fry's, etc... DeoxIT®

Fantastic Audiophile Angst: Bonnie Prince Billy

Yep, I'm a fairly long time Bonnie Prince Billy / Will Oldham / Palace Music fan. I've always found his albums to have the same sound you describe... you really feel like the stuck one nice microphone in the room and had everyone gather round it. Love that stuff. I found this quote from his...

Pet Sounds vs Sgt Pepper (cast your vote)

Ok, I'm around here, so I guess I can go against the grain. PET SOUNDS wins, hands down. I mean, Paul McCartney even said it's his favorite album of all time, and Sgt. Peppers was written in response to it. If you aren't a rabbid Beach Boys fan, it's important to know that most of us...

    Looking for something new

Based on your preference for Rufus Wainwright, I'd suggest picking up the second album by Antony and the Johnsons, "I am a bird now." It's very haunting, and great through headphones. Antony Hegarty has a really unique singing voice, which you'll either love or hate, but I still think you should...
