Mine is just warm and if I have one inch of space under it, it is barely warm. Have you opened it up to find out where all the heat is coming from? It should not be running hot. Seems like something is wrong.

I think audioengr is Steve N from Empirical audio who has posted on his website and audioasylum about the ECD-1 and Bel Canto mods that he does on them and how they sound before and after. I would like to see him evaluate a Benchmark DAC1 and how it compares to the others.

Depends on what headphone amp and headphones you are using. What do you have?

Looks like the jumpers inside do not disconnect the signal from pin 3.

The DAC1 sounds even better with DVD-A recordings.

The standard Hosa XLR to RCA adapter has pin 3 connected to ground. Did you open it up and disconnect pin 3 from ground?
