Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?

So I found the short. Connected the dmm to the input and put it in continuity/beep mode. Started slicing around the input trace with an x-acto blade, and when the beep stopped, problem solved. Ti, this short escaped a 16x loupe and a bright flashlight. There was no reasonable way to visually...

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?

Got another one for you guys. On my B22 Left channel, both 2sj74 jfets measure a short across D-S. Indeed, my input is short circuited; my 170's are both ok (4.5v across R9), and during the initial setup all the procedures went ok--the board still powers up and biases (output at least)...

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?

Hi amb (or anyone who knows for sure): I will have a Dantimax relay attenuator between the input and my 3 B22 boards (AG config.) Should I connect the ground channel to the RCA jacks (at the signal grounded case) or to the output of the attenuator? What type of cable is best to use for...

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?

If the b22 amp boards are in a separate, signal-grounded case, is it really such a bad idea to run about 12 inches of (unshielded!) cat5 as signal wiring to the pot--or must there be shielding? These b22 chasses can get large and this is the problem I'm facing. Pot extension shafts would be...

Roll Call: Who's building, built, or thinking of building a beta22?

Has anyone heard from or received a kit from Jeff Rossel lately? His last log on here was 7/31/08 and I can't seem to get him on email. Maybe he's on a much-needed holiday.

What's your take on EMI filters?

I've read lots of scattered, conflicting info about EMI filters here on head-fi. Some like them while others hate them. To start, here are some points I'd love to settle: Are the higher current models usually better than the lower current ones (i.e. 20A brick vs 6A IEC)? Is it beneficial to...

Can a fuse alter sound qaulity of an amp?

Rather unsafe idea, but one could try bypassing the fuse altogether... assuming the fuse is the weakest link, maybe this would reveal the greatest contrast sound-wise.

    CK2III....Thoughts?

I agree with most posters here. It's amazing what this amp can do and what little attention it seems to draw here. I could go on all day about this amp, wait... I already have, posted a mini-review on this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/cav...ml#post3498469

The Cavalli-Kan Kumisa III Stereo Headphone Amplifier has landed

Impressions Coming from more entry-ish amps such as the LD2++ and TW-J1, and hearing the anecdotal reports of the CKK3 being a "little" Beta22, I set out building it with sky-high expectations. I was not let down--my impressions follow, and please mind that all my impressions are relative to...
