    M-Audio vs. Audioengine vs. Swan

The best way to hook up high quality speakers to your computer is this: get a good USB DAC and plug it into your computer. You then pick this in your system properties as your sound output. Then you run RCA right and left cables from the DAC to a good Subwoofer that has RCA inputs and outputs...

    The iMod.

All iMods are used. They are based on used 4G or 5G models then they are modified to sound better. When you buy one from Red Wine Audio who does the mods, it doesn't come with a cable, you have to buy one from ALO. I have seen used ones on this site for over $600 and that's what they are selling...

    The iMod.

I like my iMod, but I was only using it in my car with my iPod cable kit from the head unit. If anyone want's to buy it to use with headphones, you would need to get an adaptor cable with built in capacitors, then ideally plug that into a headphone amp, then use your headphones with that. The...

Red Wine MOD and capability with car system

I figured out through trials at Car Tunes and my BMW dealer that for some reason the ALO iMod adapter cable won't charge my iMod when used with the BMW iPod integration kit.

Red Wine MOD and capability with car system

My iMod doesn't charge in my car with the ALO cable. Everything else works, but it goes to "sleep" after awhile, and I have to manually wake it up to get it recognized by my head unit.

Red Wine MOD and capability with car system

I have a new 5G iMod and an ALO car cable. The iMod "works" with my car iPod integration cable using the ALO cable, but it won't charge. Also, my iMod goes to sleep when not using, so when I select it, I have to open my glovebox and manually "wake" it up. Big hassle.

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes

I'm trying both Amarra and Pure Music. The nice thing about Pure Music is you can make the output Mono if you want for testing speakers, and It has a nice interface with a lot of options. Last year I bought Power Station which works within iTunes. It's inexpensive and sounds great, but I still...

    AudioEngine A5 competition

I compared the A5's at home with the M-Audio BX5a and the Swan D1080MkII 08.  They were all good, but the M-audio's lacked quality bass. The A5's and the Swan's were so close, I had trouble picking a "winner". I went back and forth for over a week. Finally I picked the Swan's because I seemed to...

Spectral Differences Between Lossless and MP3 256kbps

I definitely hear a difference from 128 bks to 256 on iTunes, and an even BIGGER difference on HiRes HD TRacks of about 900+bks. Much better separation and sound quality to my ear, even when I had basic speakers with no DAC. Now that I have an upgraded DAC and speakers, the difference is even...

USB cable supposedly improving DAC sound quality? How can I take other posts seriously after that?

I recently bought a DAC to use through my iMac to my speakers. It alone made a hugh difference in my perceived sound quality. Then I upgraded the USB cable to the DAC and the RCA interconnects to the speakers. I also "seemed" to hear an improvement. The reason I bought those "extras" was the...

Few questions about speakers and configuration

I auditioned the Swan D1080MkII's and the Audioengine A5's, as well as M-Audio B5Xa. I ended up with the Swan's, they sounded great, did were easy to hook up, and saved me money.

M-Audio or A5 with STX for Metal

I auditioned the BX5a's, the A5's, and the Swan D1080MkII's. All sounded good, but the M-Audio's definitely need a sub. You need to run 1/8" jacks from your soundcard or DAC to each speaker, or from the Sub to the speaker. The A5's sounded good by themselves. I ended up with the Swan's because...

    Swans vs Audioengine

Quote: that's how I'm doing it now. Dac to sub hi pass input, then hi pass output to speakers with RCA R+L high quality cables. the sub and speakers seem well integrated after I adjusted cutoff and volume on sub first, then adjust total volume through the source, (itunes on computer)
