    Apex Peak/Volcano Review

Currently I find the Sylvania 6SN7W metal base to be the most amazing tube, with great detail to the base, powerful impact in the highs. I have a Mullard CV181 on it's way currently. The Schitt Yggy sounds great with it. I actually bought this because of Skylabs review on it. I also got a...

    Apex Peak/Volcano Review

The Wuss, Depending on where a tube is being used, will depend on if Microphonic is an issue. In the A/P/V the tube is in the Preamp and that is when Microphonics are the most sensitive.    Complin,  I want one, but they are hard to find, balanced and without being Microphonic. This is what I...

    Apex Peak/Volcano Review

I plan on buying a Brimar, but can't find a Mullard for a reasonable price. The CBC/Hytron is actually very good, it is very much like the Sylvania but much cleaner at the high frequencies.

    Apex Peak/Volcano Review

I did, The CBS/Hytron 5962 is a vintage tube I am using currently. So is the Sylvania 6SN7GTB, Peter sent me.  The Brimar and Mullard tubes have a nice darkness to them, but can be difficult to find one that isn't microphonic at a reasonable price.

    Apex Peak/Volcano Review

My Apex Peak Volcano just came in, with an Electro-Harmonix tube, used as a substitute for the Tung Sol. I purchased the Sophia tube also, as to have a better tube to start off with. Sadly that tube never came in. Nor was I informed. This Electro-Harmonix tube has to be the most Microphonic...

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

Then the db3 file will get corrupt and I would have to copy a back up over the new one and reboot, also the scan takes 30 min or more, do to my large library. I would rather pull the SD cards.

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

I have had my AK100 since I purchased it in the first release. I currently have a 128Gb and 64GB formatted as FAT32 cards in it. Each half full and over 2000 tracks. I use a MBP Maverick, The programs I use to support the DAP are, Xact to convert AIFs to FLAC, MusicBrainz Picard for tags and...

HD800 replacement cable: ALO Reference 8 or SAA Endorphin?

I have not had the pleasure of hearing the AOL cables, for the HD800. I did purchase the E-Series unbalanced cables. I took a chance, for all the great things I heard. AOL or SAA.  James is overloaded with work and has a huge back order, but patience, paid off.   Wow! The Frequency response...

    B&W C5 quick review

I travel a lot, enough to use flyer and hotel points to acquire my HD800 (I added SAA cables and the Anaxilus mod) and HD650. When I fly, I usually use my ER4s, with custom molds on either an imod iPod tethered to a 2stepdance amp or a modded A&K 100 with same amp. The ER4s need a good amp and...

Volumio: the free hi-fi linux distribution

I just received my CuBOX-i4pro. Volumio install had some issue, the wifi card didn't have a driver. I found an image with the driver. My USB CM6631A card didn't work, until I fixed the ALSA conf. Works great and sound wonderful. Music libraries are accessed via a samba share. Only two...

Volumio: the free hi-fi linux distribution

Using the raspberry pi, over clocked to 900Mhz and getting good results with 192Mhz sample rates. Exfat 500GB USB drive. I added Fuse ExFat driver. This is a really cool headphone setup that lets me listen to music, and control it all via my iPad.  More interestingly I operate the Raspberrypi...

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie

I actually have that little amp with me on the road. I carry a Corda 2Stepdance with me and it is my favorite potable amp. The HD800 sounds good with everything. This little tube amp was just a toy to play with. The AD797AR and my APEX tube sounded best, with a clean bias setting. I find the...

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I use ER4S with custom molds, Jan Meir Corda 2Stepdance, modded A&K100 or an imod 5.5 gen ipod.  I love these IEMs, I travel a lot and rather not fly without them. Good bye screaming kids, talkative passengers and annoying others, no need for noise reduction distortion. I just insert these...

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie

I did a couple of other things, kind of quickly. The cool part about this little tube amp is that I can open it, solder up some parts and close it very quickly. I added Bypass caps to the Coupling caps, and to all the electrolytic capacitors near and behind the tube, on the bottom of the...
