How to open/mod DT770 Pro Cups

I was thinking of buying a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro off of eBay and modding them extensively to remedy some of its deficiencies. My plan is to open up the cups and perform the "bass reduction" mod and recable, adding a split and a higher quality plug. I was also considering making a pair...

    Recabling headphones (Grado)

As one newbie to another I think I can pass on some advice I have gleaned from this board. Bonthouse mentioned two very popular plugs and I would like to add the 3.5mm and 6.3mm plugs from Neutrik. Regarding cables, there are several distinct options as I see it. The first is to buy silver...

    Closed/Non-Leaking Headphones for Jazz

Any more thoughts? Can anyone verify that the Shure SHR840 can really play jazz and acoustic? How does it compare to the Senn HD380 or ATH M50 which seem to be of a similar DJ ilk. And Cerbie, to be honest, I don't have the time, patience, or money to experiment with four different cans from...

    Closed/Non-Leaking Headphones for Jazz

Also, Quinto, any thoughts on how those Shure SRH840 compare to the other phones like the DT880 or DT770? I hadn't even thought about them until now but they are much cheaper than I thought and have lots of nice looking features.

    Closed/Non-Leaking Headphones for Jazz

To be honest, this is the result I expected to a certain extent. Thus my dilemma is as follows. The DT770 has a reputation as a fairly "boomy" can, a characteristic that doesn't tend to jibe well with jazz or acoustic. AKG on the other hand is an acoustic brand and their phones are very popular...

    Closed/Non-Leaking Headphones for Jazz

So I am looking to "branch out." I currently have a pair of IEMs, the Shure SE420, which I really like. They might not offer the greatest sound ever but they allow me to listen to more music in environments I once thought inhospitable to music. I have found however that IEMs can be a little...

Problems with K271 MkII and Hdsp9632 - Need a cheap Amp?

I apologize. Nevertheless, I am of the view that if you are going to buy a system you might as well buy something that you won't want to upgrade for a long time. If I were you, I would look at the FS section and ebay for used amps in the $200-300 range as these will likely be $400 or $500 amps...

Problems with K271 MkII and Hdsp9632 - Need a cheap Amp?

With AKG products, SS amps are generally considered the safest options (although many people seem to like tubes with the K701). I too have been researching amp options for both the K271 and the K701. From what I have seen, the Headamp Gilmore Lite, Little Dot MKV, Heed Canamp, Purity Audio KICAS...

    Your Thoughts on Top-Tier IEMs

I cannot attest to the quality of many custom IEMs but I can say that the Shure SE420 is of the highest possible quality. It tends to get a bad reputation among true cost-is-no-object audiophiles, but it really is a huge step up from many single-driver monitors. I highly recommend it.
