Tube amps (or dac/amps) under 1000$?
The Crack is a phenomenal amp, especially with the Speedball upgrade. It's a fantastic project that only requires a soldering station and maybe a strap for gluing the wood. I modified the hell out of mine (choke filter, output caps, etc) but the forums and instructions are outstanding. If you...- Alypius

Upgrade/sidegrade from Beyer T1.1
Hi! I have a heavily-modified Bottlehead Crack that pairs wonderfully with my first-gen T1s. The T1s are basically on life-support at this point and I'd like to find something that sounds "similar" and has a high enough impedance to run on an OTL amp. So far my research has led me to another...- Alypius

Asgard 3 - which DAC?
If you're going with the Asgard 3, you can also consider an add-on card for it. Their 9028 is $100 while the Multibit is $200. There's some debate over the voltage drop, but I wouldn't have a problem cranking the volume pot a bit. If you want/can spend a little more, I highly recommend the...- Alypius

Which headphones would u choose?
I love my Clear MGs! Super comfortable and can listen to them for many hours. I haven't worn Audeze since 2016 or so, but I didn't like their bulk and weight. I demo'd a set of Arya Stealth and while I could probably get used to their sound, the egg-shape managed to sit directly on a pressure...- Alypius

Comfortable cans for big heads?
Second the Beyers. As said, the 770 is the closed-back, but they are ridiculously comfortable. I have DT990 (semi-open, V-shape) and T1 and I'm pretty sure I'm at my endgame.- Alypius

Earbuds Round-Up
Got my Smabots in a lot quicker than I expected and thus far I'm pretty impressed with the little guys! No unboxing review; never understood the "unboxing experience"...I don't care if it comes in a brown paper bag as long as the item performs as advertised and I don't keep boxes. So far I've...- Alypius

Earbuds Round-Up
Still eagerly awaiting my ST-10s! I did nab a JDS Atom amp while I was at it, so I've been playing with that as much as I can. The problem is that my headphones are Beyerdynamic 600 Ohm (T1, DT990) that are normally driven by my modded Bottlehead Crack. It would be incredibly unfair to make a...- Alypius

Earbuds Round-Up
Thanks! Pulled the trigger on the ST-10s, gonna wait for 11.11 to nab the Mojito and (maybe/probably) the Liebs. I do want them all, if only to review/compare.- Alypius

Earbuds Round-Up
LOL Truly interested! The ST-10's were on my list, but a little further down since no one was talking about them. I'll have to give them a shot! I was hoping to not spend more than $200, but maybe that's the price of admission for the signature I like. I'll have to dig more to choose between...- Alypius

Earbuds Round-Up
Aloha! Looking to shift to earbuds vice IEMs for listening at work (too much isolation and a PITA to take in/out when one of my minions needs me). I prefer a refined V-shaped presentation, so I have Beyerdynamic T1 (favorite, endgame), DT990/600 (close second but I deploy with it), DT1350, Shure...- Alypius

[Reviewers Wanted] World Tour for Cayin i5 - Android based AK4490 DAP with WiFi, Dropbox and Google Play
I still owe everyone a review of the i5, but I'm clobbered with finals and thesis. I'll get one up this weekend. Thanks for understanding! The i5 is fantastic, btw. Loved listening to it!- Alypius

Rate the video games you're currently playing
Agreed, the Ghost run is a pain in the ass. I think I honestly spend more time looking at a reload screen than I do playing the game. I'm committed, though, so I'll finish the run, but my next playthrough will probably be a low-chaos pacifist run (don't care about ghost but won't kill anyone) or...- Alypius

The original Deus Ex is what got me back into gaming after a long hiatus. The story was better than the movies that were coming out at the time (Matrix, etc). DX:HR is also a great game (especially if you install the DLC beforehand; The Missing Link is, IMHO, an important part of the overall...- Alypius

New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)
I run my Crack with a coke-bottle RCA 6AS7G or Tung Sol 5998 and either a GE 12AU7 or CBS 5814A.- Alypius
