FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

I just ordered a 2nd Gen X5 to replace my 1st gen X3. What differences should I expect to hear? How does battery life compare? Any recommendations other than throw my sd card in and listen? Thanks! Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

To be fair, when I started down this path in early January, you had just started making your cables and hadn't offered them for sale to the public. Had my timing been a bit later, I probably would have gone with yours. Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

So... I am an idiot and adept at throwing money.   So I decided to order another set of Aawan adapters on ebay since I was unable to get resolution on the defective one. After a three week wait, they arrived.  As I went to assemble them, I immediately noticed that I did not order the mcx...

Visual inspection with 4x monocle shows the inner pin in the defective unit and the working unit appear identical, neither is showing a bend or out of round. Looking at the spec for the female parts, it looks like the tolerances are +/-  0.04 mm so I'm not sure if I'd be able to see something...

Quote: Regrettably, I never heard back again from Aawan and ebay said it has been too long for them to step in and help. This was difficult for me since they indicated they would send out another set but having to wait 3 weeks to see if they actually did put this outside of ebay's 30 day...

For tips, I go with Shure Olives which are very resilient and provide a very good seal. Once they get matted down with wax, I put on a new pair and I soak the old ones in hydrogen peroxide which brings them back. I've never actually thrown them away and I have had them for years.

I did not hear back fro Aawan (probably due to the holiday) so I got a bit more formal and started a return on ebay. I was then contacted and told a replacement set would be sent out.  I'm pretty sure the break is in a solder point because plugging and unplugging the cable does not always fix...

Yup, I did all of the permutations just to make sure it wasn't a connector issue on the ER4 side.  It was definitely the MMCX connection on the left side. The sound cut out any time that connector was attached to either ER4 part or the left or right side of the cable.   I sent the email to...

It appears that one of the adapters I purchased from awwan is failing after a little over a week. It seems to be where the cable plugs into the adapter. I got mmcx/shure connector and if I plug and unplug the cable it comes back for a time. I switched everything around to determine if it was a...

I received my adapters from Awwan today. My Linum Bax cable arrived last Friday. My Ety cables came off very easily, maybe because I had them rebuilt by Etymotic 16 months ago. I am very impressed by the new cable and connectors. My ER4P's sound great. I am very disappointed that I've gone...

Thanks for the recommendation. I was considering these but was concerned about how thin they were. I thought there would be a durability issue. I looked at the YouTube videos and was sold. The other cable I was looking at was the BTG Starlight. Much much bulkier, but I think I really like the...

I wound up ordering the adapters with resistors from AW Audio since the 75 ohm adapter was going to run me $20 or so anyway. I'll try to sell the un-resistor'd ones to try to make some of the money back. I never got shipping confirmation from AW Audio but the original ones I ordered arrive...

Modified cross-post from Fiio forum. I have Etymotic ER4P. I have already sent them in once for re-cabling/rebuild and have been frustrated with the microphonics of the stock cable. Today I ordered the shure cable adapters for the ER4's off of eBay. Does anyone have any experience with the...

I have Etymotic ER4P IEMs. I have already sent them in once for re-cabling/rebuild and have been frustrated with the audiophonics of the stock cable. Today I ordered the shure cable adapters for the ER4's. Anyone have any experience with the Fiio cable on ER4's? Is the cord noise reported...
