I thinj buy wises grey marketed items are possibly refurb units so far i have purchased 2 z1rs one of them (from buywise) came with the cables wrapped in a thin foam like the z7 instead of the clear plastic on the ends of the wires. I remember doing a ton if reaserch and inspecting my headphone thinking it was fake the headphone was not fake but i do believe that it could possibly be a refurb. Anywhoo I think its a better buy to purchase it from a dealer like music to my ears or even jasontv if i could do it again i would do it through them.. With what they do for the headphone community its always good to support small bussinesses that offer things that you love

Maybe not refurbs rather returned units. Knowing how in the US people often take advantage of the return policy to try out expensive gear and return them during the window when they don't like it I wouldn't be surprised when you happen to bought a unit that was returned and resealed for reselling.

Can confirm I have white foam wrappers as well.

I'm pretty certain that white foam is direct from factory brand new.

No. It was me :L3000: and my first impressions were not that good hence I was looking at the collective wisdom of the forum to walk me off the ledge :beerchug:.. now that I have about 30 hrs on both balanced connection on Sony wm1z and z1r I can see that it is opening up and getting used to this sound and the bass.. now I am getting excited how the final signature may feel like.. I still feel Oppo pm3 are excellent headphones for the price but z1r is definitely something else.. the thing is stock cable sound is really good.. hoping kimber brings mids bit forward and tightens bass..

Patiently burning both Sony wm1z and z1r and enjoying as sound sig changes

Pc

I'm not really one who is into cables a great deal, but many others are and believe they help so I will hope the effects are what you are hoping for. Yes, I agree the PM3 is excellent for my taste, loved it as a portable for sure. It is actually a major accomplishment that Oppo came to the market with three arguably excellent and well priced offerings right out of the gate. I felt the PM3 was very well made and worth the asking price so I have no regret having owned it and I am keeping my eye out for the next Oppo headphone which I am hopeful will come out sooner as opposed to later, but I have no idea if it will ever happen, just hopeful.

I think with any new signature time is needed. I liked the Z1R right away, but it started to really wow me over time. It has a difficult to describe (at least for me) presentation so it can sound understated and not cracking with energy, but the richness and even-handedness (yes I do feel the Z1R pulls off sounding balanced admirably) is captivating. I was away for two weeks, and upon return got very sick so I hadn't been able to listen to the Z1R for at least three weeks and last night when I finally found a free hour and was feeling well enough I took them for a spin. It was very nice. The Z1R seems to get out of the way while still surrounding you with a rich sound field. I think if you continue to just enjoy the music, try not to compare and analyze too much, just let the music flow, you will get acclimated to what the Z1R brings to the table. If in the end it doesn't float your boat, no big deal, no headphone is for everybody and there are so many excellent models out there anyway.

I'm loaning my Z1R to a friend for two weeks and he will be loaning me his MPH1000 so that should be an interesting exchange. Anyway, hope you continue to enjoy the Z1R.

It going to be interesting to hear your opinion. I own both and IMO they are very different sounding. Comfort wise to me the Z1R beats the MPH1000. Sound wise it's a matter of preference. I won't say more for now but let's exchange notes after you guys listen to both.

Sounds good, and I'm very much looking forward to the exchange. I love trying new gear and with my prolonged and forced period of economic woe, I can't buy gear so for now borrowing will be my only chance.

You know that the MHP1000 is a pimped Beyerdynamic headphone? Likely a T1/5p clone.

Do you mean that the left pad was mounted on the right side and vice versa for the right pad?
Yes.. I found out because inside the pads there is a red dot and white dot an left side has the pad with red dot .. Looks like someone returned it and Amazon just shipped it to me ..

I have owned the T1 and the T50. The MHP1000 might look as part of the Beyerdynamic family but they do not sound like them, to they sound much better.
