I mean for the Hd650 that is.
I find the HD650 takes a big jump in technical performance with quality balanced drive, and then another big jump in overall musicality with a very good vinyl source (compared to a Yggdrasil). Cable is icing. They react more positively and with greater magnitude to these elements than other cans, and continue to impress 14 years on.

Yep, that balanced HD650, damn! I've been reacquainting myself with the HD650, and been seriously impressed at its scalability, musicality, and balance. I still find the Stax 009 to be the best headphone, of course, but the HD650 is stealing a lot of listening time lately on a nice vinyl setup -- which has trouble dishing enough gain into a Stax / BHSE, but works awesome with the very efficient HD650.

I've been driving it with an old Headroom Balanced Home (Max modules, Stepped Attenuator), which sounds awesome. Also have an old Headamp Gilmore Balanced Reference; it also sounds awesome (more detailed, but brighter). Using Jensen transformers to convert my single-ended phono stage outputs to balanced. Now the cable game begins anew -- of course the old classic Zu Mobius is excellent; I also have a Black Dragon sounding very nice, and a Silver Dragon which may not be my flavor.

I'm giving the HD600 another try too, but so far it's heavily in favor of the HD650, for all genres, including metal. The HD600 has a lot more energy from the upper mids and up, some will like that, and some will consider the HD650 too thick and murky/dark, but the HD600 is not as smooth and detailed as the HD650. And I love the Stax 009, so I'm not averse to bright headphones if they're smooth enough. Bass is more powerful and cleaner on the HD650 too.

I havê the hd600. It ruins my ears as i Stated on other posts. It gives me a kind of wird buzzing effect that i never got from any other headphones including dt770s and others... Dont know if its my unit or if i AM sensitive to the hd600s SIG.....

I hope the hd650 would havê a similar but Fuller sound without hurting my ears.

I had a similar effect with the HD 600, the HD 650 is less fatiguing to me than the HD 600. I've only owned one headphone that has caused me absolutely zero fatigue though and that's the Beyer DT 480.

I agree. I still use my HD650 as my everyday headphone and only reach for my other headphones when I want to listen to specific songs.

What do you mean by a weird buzzing effect? When do you hear this buzzing, during listening, or after? How loud is it and how long does it last?
