Any FIIO portable dac should do. I find my Q1 a bit smoother (less detailed) using the line out to Magni 2 than the Mimby and a DYI AK4490EQ, hence less harsh. I think a warmer amp can do a better job taming the highs on high volume levels.

yeah the amp I just got is warmer than the output on the Aune, and bass for dayyyyss

Been reading a lot for a few hours about DAC's etc, and I might just EQ out some of the treble and be done with it. Seems like some can hear massive differences, some can't. Don't want to spend money on a 50/50 thing that might pay off or might not.
DACs (decent transparent ones - as in all of the modern day DACs over $50) may count for 0.0001% - 2.0 % of improvement/change in sound, at best. To get to that 2%, we are talking industry leading four/five figure DACs.
Good and clean power is much more important, if you ask me.

So, what amp did you get?

I thought the Mimby was a bit warmer of a DAC, at least compared to normal Modi 2?

It is, sorta, compared to the Odac, at least. I haven't heard the modi 2 AK4490, but assuming that my Chifi DYI AK4490 sounds similar, I'd say Mimby may be slightly punchier with a tad more oomph at the bottom end.
But I'm really splitting hair here.
Fiio Q1's dac is darker, quite noticeably... may be 0.5% - 1.0% darker in comparison.

They got angry at me over at the HE400i thread because I keep finding the 400i's sound stage lacking compared to the M1060's. In truth, I should probably stop repeating this, but I feel the need to stress it at least one more time: the HE400i has a rinky-dink sound stage compared to the M1060. It's not that the M1060 has a wide sound stage; it's just that things sound much bigger on it. Keep that in mind if you're weighing which one to get and intend to play games and/or watch movies with it. Now why do I feel compelled to repeat this (though I promise to stop)? Because I saw somebody ask "Should I get the HE400i or the M1060?" and somebody said the 400i as if it were just a matter of course. Well, it's not.

Hey all, I've had my M1060s for a couple of months now and really love them! I'm still not done reading the whole thread but I thought it was about time I chimed in anyway. They sound great right out of the box but when I finally opened them up and removed the foam pads I was really blown away by the improvement. They sounded more lively and the treble got a little clearer also.
I also found a replacement cable that will work with these! The Sol Tracks HD stock cable works very well, is a little shorter and has a mic and playback controls also.

One of the biggest things going against the 1060's is the price :)

I ordered a new M560 as it's the lowest cost planar driven headphone on the market at the moment. I have never spend more than $50 much less the effective $190 on this set of headphones. So far with on the ear/over the ear I only have used a beats set I got as a gift and a Gemini HSR-1000 that seems to be good all around.

I hope they are fairly good against the Gemini that I paid $45 for.

T50RP would like to have a word with you.

Gotta agree with this. A lot of your higher-end enthusiast will pass them up thinking... pfft..! Not going to bother with these. Even some looking to upgrade might jump over them with that, you get what you pay for thinking. If you love HPs, and love having different sound signatures, and can afford it, don't pass this one up. Highly modifiable, and scales well.

True. I have two T50RP MKIIIs and M560 was sent packing.
