What a joke.

Summary:

-Cant tell the difference between the HE-500 and HE-6
-Will prefer the Monoprice planars over the HE-6
-Think they sound FLAT.
-Cant figure out what they do better than other headphones.
-Says they dont sound $1200 good right now.

I can see his point of view from just an average consumer getting into headphones. Once you build a real system around the HE-6 and mod them to suit your tastes there isn't a headphone that eclipses them. Personal taste is also so wildly variable that some people would take Beats over the HE-6, while we wouldn't be caught dead with some of the more common consumer headphones.

I've never really liked his reviews and we certainly seem to have VASTLY different preferences, this just prove it to me once again.....

Beautiful! Congratulations! That's the way to power the HE-6...and, just my two cents, every other headphone.
thanks, my modded he-6 sounds absolutely fantastic.

Despite the ed6 having some improvements over the other 2 hifimans, the he-6 has some key advantages over the susvara in some areas. Can't say the same with the he1k.

Dynamics
He-6>ed6>>>>he1k
Resolution, separation, detail
ed6>he1k> he-6
clarity
ed6>he-6=he1k
soundstage
he-6>ed6>he1k
bass
he-6>>ed6>he1k
mids (ed6 vocals are very good)
ed6>>he1k>he-6
treble (treble tone between he-6 and ed6 are surprisingly similar)
ed6>he-6>he1k
imaging
ed6 (sharper)= he-6 (more 3d) > he1k
scale
ed6 > he-6>he1k

Overall the ed6 reminded me of a he1k with a bit of the he-6 dynamics and brightness combined with a bit more forward mids that is not that characteristic with hifimans. Also resolution and clarity is better on the ed6. Surprisingly the ed6 almost needs as much power as the he-6. I needed to use the speaker taps for it. While the he1k was fine with the headphone out.

Preference
he-6= ed6 >>> he1k

while the ed6 like the hd 800 and utopia and some totl estats edge out the he-6 in technicalities. The dynamics and soundstage presentation is what makes me go back to the he-6. If price was no object, I'd buy a ed6 to complement my he-6. The he1k is pretty much out of the picture.

Getting an average consumer reviewer to review HE-6 is like asking Walt Mossberg to review a missile defense system. HE-6 is an enfant terrible, and expecting people with "plug and play" expectations to enjoy it is just not realistic.

Glad to hear HE-6 is continuing to kick Susvara's arse. I liked edition 6 in LA but it was nowhere near worth 6k.

You have the 4 screw or 6 screw version?

pretty sure it's a 6 screw, considering it had foam (which I removed).

Also, I retweaked the pad mod, and I think I squeezed a bit more detail and clarity from it. The he-6 wasn't too well received from the meet I went to, and it was probably because I messed up a bit with my mods.

Foam covering a quarter of the driver has always been there in stock condition.
