Can you point me in the direction of where to find more recordings with these issues? I would love to check them out from the source rather than a flac/wav clip. Thanks.

The first track of http://www.hdtracks.com/mahler-symphony-no-01-in-d-major is what I used for the sample. You could buy it, but it is pricey - not sure if you want to spend that much unless you really like the music. I'll try to find free hi-res downloads that exhibit the problem.

Try this free download from the 2L label: http://www.lindberg.no/hires/test/2L50SACD_tr1_DXD_stereo.zip . I get crackling with this file when played back at its native sampling rate of 352.2. Downsampling to 44.1 causes the crackling to go away. Be careful with the volume. You might be tempted to increase it to hear the crackling at the beginning of the track, but it gets loud when the music starts at 00:04!

There are many other free hi-res downloads at http://www.2l.no/hires/

I don't hear any crackling in my download of the one you linked. Maybe I'm just not playing it back @ 352 kHz? Through optical it only supports 96 kHz anyway.

I can try to set it up through USB after work so it supports up to 192 kHz and see how it goes.

Can anyone comment on the merits of the NFB 28 over the Schiit Jotunheim (with DAC module). I'm struggling to decide between the 2.

No crackle on my Audio GD NFB-29H with the Amanero USB module. Jriver confirms that it is sending the DXD file output to the DAC as 352.8 32 bit 2 CH using the ASIO driver. No problem with my other IFI audio Dac's as well. The DXD file is technically very well done recording.

It is personal preference. The Schiit Jotunheim is USA made and often found on sale second hand. The Jotunheim is shorter and can be fitted with a phone MM stage for use with a turntable for vinyl records.

Thanks for your input. I'm in Europe and the Jotunheim seems to come up for sale far less often. I'm primarily concerned with the DAC but the vinyl module could be a consideration for the future.

Thank you for testing this. So, I guess not all units exhibit this problem. I guess I'll have to send my unit in...

I had the same issue with the Jot vs Audio GD. In the end, after doing some research, I decided to go with the combo Schiit Modi multibit + audio gd NFB-1AMP (Both bought from European retailers). I am very satisfied with the setup and I am using it to drive a Focal Elear and a Senn HD800S with a very nice and detailed sound.

I ended up choosing the Questyle CMA 600i. Got one for used for a really good price. Just waiting for it to arrive now...

Hi,
I want to buy a new amplifier (and DAC) for Beyerdynamic T1 (v1 with single ended and Hifiman he400i to use. I am having a hard time choosing a product because of the shine of a product's treble. You are using Would you recommend Audio-Gd NFB-29.38 for Beyerdynamic T1 (v1 with single ended )?
