AKG701 Distorts at Moderately High Volume
The headphone itself will not distort before you are deaf A low-impedance headphone is not so easy to drive, especially if it not very efficient, like the K701. Because of its low imopedance there is a higher current, which may excel your amp#s capability.- eddie78

AKG K271 vs. K271mII?
Especially as the velours pads sound better than the pleather pads (not out of the box, but after some "burn-in", after the are softer and fit to the form of your head...).- eddie78

HD600 Acquired, comparison to the k701
I wondered that you called the HD600 "distanced". That was the feeling I had with the K701. Not that it is a bad can, but it sounded very distant (narrator-like), lie a satellite watching from outer space...- eddie78

DX1000 vs. W5000
Don't be worried about overwhelming bass. It's not that bad. The bass of the DX1000 is detailed and controlled, it does not affect the other frequency ranges. A fine headphone , yet not an allrounder (it covers more genres than the W5000, but still is "special"). The W5000 only sounds good with...- eddie78

Newbie Looking for Guidance
I believe it does not make sense to spend to much for amplification in this case. The MS1 is easy to drive, and does not have so much resolution that you should be able to hear differneces between the amps. The Zero should definitely be enough.- eddie78

Which is better for Classical Music GS1000, RS1 or K701???
that is why i put "exciting" in quotation marks. To my ears, they only consist of bass and treble, the mids are completely lost. Pointing only towards the effects... like cheap car-hifi on a high level. To my ears they sound completely wrong - don't know how to describe it.- eddie78

I cannot understand how you are able to listen to classical music with a GS1000 - because it falsifies the sound of the instruments. OK, the have nice soundstage and good resolution, and sound somehow "exciting", but far from being natural. To my ears, the are kinda top-class car-hifi...- eddie78
