Wood earphones are such a gimmick

The wood is so small and thin that it doesn't really resonate and is like plastic. But more importantly, the wood is rear facing, but the nozzle holding the piece is plastic. Metal, yes, is a good housing material because of its density and it makes a noticable difference .wood is just a gimmick.

    $20-$50 wireless headphones

    Thinksound Rain Impressions

I picked them up for relatively cheap, $35 on sale.   Impressions:   1. Really good for vocal pieces. 2. Not that good for rock or groove. bass doesn't extend far enough. 3. I'm not used to having such detailed upper register sound, sibilance from the cymbals. 4. Build is okay but...

Anyone know the DAC on the macbook plastic unibody?

I'm listening to music through my macbook right now...and it's damn good. Anyone know what sort of DAC they put in the macbook's headphone port? The model number I think is A1342

How do the Brainwavz Delta and the Xioami piston earphones compare?

Like the title asks. They're about the same price, the Brainwavz is a little cheaper by about $5.    I"m mainly interested in instrument separation. Given how fragile IEM's are, I'm not willing to pay over $50 for IEM's.

    Anyone listen with Nokia Phones?

The Nokia 520 and 820 both have expandable storage, and Win8 mobile.   I listened to the 820 recently...and I liked it a lot. I honestly felt that the sound was more detailed and crisp than what I got from my 5g ipod touch. I felt like I could get more of the music's texture. Dolby headphone...

Sony Discman D-121 a hidden gem

Okay, for starters, I haven't had any experience with any of the classics like the d555, or even the d-34.   The D-121 sounds pretty darn good. Compared to to the D-e301 discman (10 sec anti-skip) or the Panasonic SL-S200 (again, anti-skip) the 121 seems to have a more expansive soundstage...

    Discman alignment

I have a D112 discman.   It's not really one of the recommended vintage PCDP's, but I like it enough.   It seems to have problems with alignment. Especially the first few tracks tend to skip like crazy. I gather that this is because the disc spins at a faster rate on the inner tracks and...

Any PCDP's good with scratched discs?

I'm using a D-121, which is a neat piece of vintage electronics, but it's pretty awful with scratched discs. even light scratches throws it off. It seems like it's worse at the beginning of discs.   I assume that scratch resistance is a function of laser strength. Which discmen are better...

Just Picked up a D-121 Discman

The last time I listened to a physical cd must have been...a long time ago. Like, 8 yrs ago.   Otherwise, I listen to ipods.   I feel like the player itself looked better in the photos than it does in real life. I really liked the industrial design, which was pretty angular and interest...

    Older Sony Discmans

So I hear a lot about how like the D-555 is really good.   Kind of out of my price range.   I used to have a DE301 when I was younger. How did that model compare? It seems to me that the big line for the discmans is when they started using the compression for the anti-skip instead of...

    Repairing headphones

I've thrown out a number of perfectly good earphones over the years because the cord went bad.   I'm going to start repairing them.   What's the best size of braided nylon housing to get. 1/8"? that's the smallest it seems.   and for heat shrink...3/16? 1/4"?   anyone have...

Does there exist like a dedicated earphone earmuff?

Basically, for use while exercising or on the go. I have my IEM's fall out a lot on me.    Think it's a good idea? Like, if there were one that managed to keep earphones in without compressing your ears too hard or making them too hot.

    Anyone try out DX.com earphones?

DX.com has a number of quality-looking earphones, that at least on the silouette look similar to high end earphones, but cost less than $10 shipped.   Like, there's a brand called Kanen which has a wooden housing and looks for all intents and purposes like somethign that might sell for $40...

    IEM >$50 are nonsensical

I compared my apple dual driver iems (purchase price: $36) to Sennheiser HD201's today.    The Apple is actually better overall in terms of clarity and instrument texture.    But -- b/c they're IEM's, they are more uncomfortable to use since there is pressure on the inside of your ears...

How does the Zune HD compare to the Touch for organizer capabilities?

I'm considering the Zune HD and the ipod touch. The Zune HD looks interesting right now for me b/c it's slightly smaller, which is important, a little cheaper, and just as good AFAIKT. Also, reputedly has better SQ. The deciding factor for me will probably be capability for stuff like...

One thing the ipod earbuds beat everyone in

is the headphone jack. Compared to other headphone jacks, this one is designed for small portable devices, itself being light and slim. Furthermore, with the weight distributed on the bottom, it works to plant the plug into the headphone jack, and when you're walking around with the ipod, all...

    Apple In-ears

I just thought that I'd share my thoughts on them. I ordered a pair about a week ago, refurb they cost about $15. Also bought some sleeves like the senn cx300 and creative ep630 have, for $5. The refurb came in a nice sealed plastic bag, inside were the headphones in perfect condition and a...

What's a good player for me?

Currently I have an H120 rockbox'd. I like it, but I'm afraid that it's going to die soon. Just wondering what else is out there. I do need something that is larger than 20 gb... I tend to run out of space, and I just like being able to leave old stuff on there and find it later while on...
