Help identifying headphones Billy Corgan uses

Thank you! I definitely know about the HD650s but have never had a pair or tried one so couldn't pick them blindly out of a Sennheiser lineup. There are pictures of Corgan wearing a lot of different headphones of course so I can't be sure these are it, but from what he said about them letting...

Help identifying headphones Billy Corgan uses

In this new Rick Beato interview Billy Corgan says that he struggled for years to find the right headphones that he can sing with and now has some that he loves. He couldn’t think of what they were though on the spot. He said they’re off the ear and let in a bit of sound. He talks about it...

These were ordered from Japan and only used at the office I used to work at for a couple of years and were very well cared for. I do not sweat much and the earpads and headband were wiped off with a cloth after each use. The headband leather looks perfect with no sign of deterioration. I also...

These have maybe 10 hours on them, if that. I was a little crazy about the Z1R back when they came out and these were bought as a backup pair that I never got around to using. I no longer work in an office so have no use for big headphones anymore.

    AirPods Max

How is the comfort on these headphones? Plenty of depth for those of us with larger ears? For reference I’ve tried my mom’s qc35’s which are just barely big enough for my ears, but I still found them really comfortable, some of the most comfortable I’ve worn. If the APM are close to that I’d...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

It's not just you, the Z1R pads are hot and the only headphones I've ever worn that cause a little bit of sweat on the earpads. And I'm a very dry, non-sweaty person. My pads have pretty much stayed the same over the years, but I wipe them off after each use. Maybe they would change/conform a...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

What would you be pairing the Z1R with? People like to crap on the stock cable but I enjoy it with laid back DACs like the Mojo. I also love how lightweight/pliable the stock cable is and that it has no microphonics. Once I went to a bit brighter/more revealing source (Hugo 2) I preferred the...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Isn’t the TH900 semi-open? I don’t see the point in comparing it to closed headphones. I mean if I was in a situation where I could use semi-open or open headphones I wouldn’t even consider closed headphones, doesn’t make any sense to me. A better comparison would be the Ether C flows which...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I agree with the other posters, the bass isn’t intrusive at all with jazz or classical. As for leakage, they are about average for a closed back headphone. Perfectly fine in most circumstances to not disturb anyone. I use mine in an office with cubicles and no one can hear them. And the pads...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I suppose they’re worth a try if you don’t like the current pads. I don’t notice the smell much but the stock pads definitely make my ears sweat more than any other headphone I’ve tried. I have to wipe them off after each use.

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I mean cables making a difference has already been debated endlessly, but to me it's something you need to use for a long time to get used to the difference, not quickly A/B'ing, so I don't think the kind of tests you're proposing are really going to solve anything. And even if it is only...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

He prefers open-backed, bright headphones and these are not that. And he reviewed with the Moon Audio 430HA which is a bit dark and not that great, the Z1Rs simply showcased what he fed it. You have the Hugo 2 though so will be fine, it's a great pairing with the Z1R.

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I am satisfied with the isolation, it is pretty average for a closed-back headphone compared to other closed-backs I've owned. I mean I don't think it would be great on a flight but for office use it's pretty good. Look at post 2295 in this thread for a comparison with the Z7M2. And you'll...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

This is great news for Z1R owners, it will be a highly sought after headphone. If you think the the Z7Mk2 will be in the same league as the Z1R or that Sony will come out with a comparable replacement anytime soon you are kidding yourself.

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

What do you mean phased out? You're coming across as very confused, this was Sony's plan all along. There's no point in them indefinitely making this headphone as there are only so many people in the world that want a high-end closed headphone like this. The price will only go up as stock...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

That’s certainly possible. I think it’s more likely though that this was just a limited thing and they won’t have a comparable replacement for years as that has been the trend with Sony.

I see you have the M Scaler, looking forward to your impressions with it and the Z1Rs if you ever get a pair. Has anyone here used the M Scaler with the Z1Rs yet?

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I’m also using the Hugo 2. I’ve had the Ether C and Ether C Flow and think the Z1R trounces the Ether C and is a bit better than the C Flow. The Ether C Flow has plenty of bass (more sub bass than the Z1R) but the 6-7k region is fatiguing for me with them.

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

But the reality is there is no "best" sounding cable. The most they can do is change the sound signature in very subtle ways. I find the stock cable to have the best look and feel. It is lightweight, very pliable, and has next to no microphonics. I would still be using it if didn't...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I can understand that level of hyperbole if you're talking about a DAC upgrade or something. But for a headphone cable? I'm sorry but I can't agree with you there, that reeks of sales bias which this topic is not the place for. I do completely agree with your previous post though on cables and...
