Referencesounds/LFF's modded HE-5 >Code-X< thread
Guys just a heads up I'm selling my HE-5 that I've kept in storage for the last couple years (leaving the head-fi game for the time being). Figured you loving people would treasure it much more. Purchased circa 09-10 and I've replaced original cable w/ HE-6 OCC cable as well as the velour pad w/...- Xan7hos

Low cost XLR Balanced input HP amp for LCD-2 ?
I know it might sound somewhat farfetched, but my iBasso PB1 drives my HE-5 to more than adequate levels of listening volume. To me the PB1 via balanced output sounded better than when it was paired with the EF-5 (could drive to much higher levels without clipping/distortion, bass maintains a...- Xan7hos

Mapletree Headphone Amps
first off welcome to head-fi. secondly, this is the "Dedicated Source Component" sub-thread/board, where people discuss "source components" ...i.e. soundcards, digital-to-analog converters, vinyl players, etc. What you're referring to is the amplification process, and in that regard...- Xan7hos

Grado HF2 Make Over
Quote: Even non B-stock HF2 were prone to cosmetic issues. I bought one of the first run HF-2, and the metal cups had knicks and random scratches, and you couldn't buff or polish it out because I believe there is a clear coat which prevents you from doing so. Nothing you can do unless you...- Xan7hos

Rate The Last Movie You Watched
Rango 8/10 Beautifully animated, great visual and sound editing. Story is quite odd, unique, and overall despite its self-reflexive tone it does justice to the genre. Not exactly the kid-friendliest 3d animated movie however. The Adjustment Bureau 6.5-7/10 Terrific acting by...- Xan7hos

nwavguy, been lurkin around your blog and I must say your reviews have been a fresh of breath air around these parts. head-fi has been and is plagued with so much misinformation and uninformed consumers, so I have to say again your articles are definitely much appreciated and I definitely agree...- Xan7hos

What's the best mini to1/4 adapter?
Quote: +1 -
Is there a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter that works with mic button headphones?
none commercially that i'm aware of. best bet is to find a female TRRS jack and wire it so that it bypasses the mic signal, then just wire the L/R channels and ground to a 1/4 TRS plug -

Cardas Golden Power Cable
My suggestion is stop listening to what people are saying and instead do a few listening test of your own in order to determine which one sounds the best... But of course being head-fi everyone's got an opinion, so here's mine. I was in a similiar situation, picked up a power cord from... -

Quote: 2.4w output and the ability to fine tune the sound signature to your liking seems plenty enough reasons to upgrade :) These things are getting ridiculously powerful, I might pick one up to see if they can run my desktop full range speakers- Xan7hos

Senneiser HD25-1 II, does it look cheap? POOL
It's a professional product for the professional field, which is why you see them a lot for sportscasters. Honestly you can't get any more rugged without the additional weight from either metal housing or a rubberized coating, which maybe defeats the purpose of it's (trans)portable design- Xan7hos

Toucan and Boomslang (IBasso Audio) Balanced Review Thread
Thanks for the comments in regards to the Boomslang. Between that, the Matrix Mini-I and the Emotiva XDA-1 I'm thinking I'll opt for the XDA-1 as I was mainly looking for a budget friendly balanced DAC regardless of dimension- Xan7hos

Balanced Digital Out needed for a balanced rig?
Depends on how well the Yulong implements the Toslink and viceversa. Generally AES and SPDIF are considered better choices due to better control of jitter. If you're looking for a completely balanced setup, then the digital signal does not need to be balanced, only during the D/A...- Xan7hos
