Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Take a listen to Bob Dorough on his 1956 album "Devil May Care". For me, he owns "Polka Dots and Moonbeams". See if you like his jazzy phrasing...- EarlofChatfield

VDACii....not at all impressed, noise issues on USB
I recently got a V-DAC II and have been using it with a Dell Vostro 1400 and an ASUS 1005HA netbook, both running 32 bit Windows 7 and using Foobar 1.1.10 with the WASAPI output component v2.5. I have had absolutely no problems with any stray noises or sounds, either when the laptops are running...- EarlofChatfield

Headamp GS-1 or Gilmore Lite?
If that question is for me... no, my GS-1 just has a potentiometer. I understand that Justin individually tests the pots for quality and good channel matching. I am happy with mine and I can dial in exactly the volume level that I want.- EarlofChatfield

Headamp GS-1 or Gilmore Lite?
I use both HD-650 and K-701 with my 740C and GS-1. Right away, there was very good synergy with the HD-650. Originally, I thought the K-701 too bright in this setup, but with many months of use, I find the K-701's top end mellowing out, the bass improving, and the soundstage and detail are superb.- EarlofChatfield

Headamp GS-1 or Gilmore Lite?
I have a GS-1 and an Azur 740C and I find the pairing very good... highs are not too bright or harsh at all. I also have a G-Lite, and would definitely reccomend the step up to the GS-1, which I find a little "sweeter" in the top end. I don't have the stepped attenuator, but I find the Alps pot...- EarlofChatfield

best portable amp for the akg k701
You should consider the HeadAmp AE-2. The AD8397 has a lot of output current capability for driving the K701s. If you like the sound of the GS-1 home amp... and I do, you'll find the AE-2 a very comfortable listen.- EarlofChatfield

Cambridge Azur 840c
I feel that the 740C is a big step up from my NAD 521BEE. I don't really have the words to describe it very well, but it seems to me to be very clean and detailed without being too bright or harsh and the bottom end is full without being muddy. I think it is a good compromise between being too...- EarlofChatfield

Has anyone listened to the new Cambridge Azur 740c yet?
I've had the Azur 740C now for a little over two months, and it's growing on me... definitely a step up from my C521BEE. The upsampling technology using the Analog Devices DSP and the Anagram Technologies software seems to do its job well... clean, detailed, liquid high end that is never harsh...- EarlofChatfield
