Fiio E18 Going Back (High Pitched Noise)
If you think "Made in China" is a mark of low quality, you're about two decades behind the times. China produces Iphones, most of the high-quality, mass-produced clothing like Jcrew, and they've built the fastest trains in the world and the only commercial Maglev. In many ways, China is more...- spartan777

Pico DAC no longer working in Ubuntu
I recently installed Xubuntu 14.10 and now my Pico DAC doesn't work any more. It simply doesn't show up as an audio source. Anyone know how to fix this?- spartan777

FiiO E18 Review
I saw the FiiO E18 for $135 shipped on Massdrop, so I was going to buy it after waiting years to finally buy a portable amp. I was mostly going to use my Etymotic IEM's with it, but could my Beyerdynamic 770 and 880's (250 ohm) work with the E18? From the time of this post, there is 21 hours...- spartan777

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
I've had several people listen to my cans. Back when I only had my Beyer 880's without an amp, I had a non-musician friend listen to them for a few minutes. At the end he asked "How much did you pay for them?" looking very discontented. Later, I had someone who was a lifelong saxaphonist listen...- spartan777

PC case silencing- installing a muffler.
By the way, I just bought a new case and its in the mail now. On my old case the entire front was one big air intake (I have 2 120mm and 1 92mm fan), this caused a lot of noise. However in my new case, the air intake is on the bottom of the case. This will hopefully allow the noise from the...- spartan777

PC case silencing- installing a muffler.
I'm aware that people use vinyl or acoustipack to line their cases. However, I'm not interested in doing that. I needed to determine if it was the case walls or the air intake/exhausts that were causing more noise. I put pillows and blankets over the front, back and top of my case, which is...- spartan777

PC case silencing- installing a muffler.
I've been studying how to silence my PC. After installing the quietest fans, the next thing to do is to muffle the air intake/exhausts. I'm going to make my own from some tubing and foam. What materials absorb the higher-frequency whine of a fan and the upper mid to high frequency of a hard...- spartan777

On dt880s, jvc SU-DH1s, and the ever elusive ideal amp; Audiophile advice needed.
I have the 770's and 880's in 250Ω, and the 990's in 600Ω. I have a pico DAC and a Wooaudio Wa3 amp. My favorite headphone are the 990's, but that might just be because of the 600Ω. Either way, I would suggest you either get the 880's or the 990's in 600Ω. With my amp and 990's, the bass is...- spartan777

Cheap Phono Preamp for Turntable?
I just bought a TCC TC-750. I was really interested in building my own Bugle too. ssportclay, how difficult is it to build a Bugle? The only thing I've made before was the CMoy, and I wouldn't want to waste $100 in parts on something I can't build.- spartan777

beyerdynamic dt880 250 ohm or 600 ohm
Agreed. Get the 600 ohm if you can. I have the 990's 600ohm, and prefer it to my 880's in 250 ohm.- spartan777

Looking at used turntables
"If you can afford this then it is a very high quality record player indeed and you would need to spend 1000USD or more to get something of this standard new today." Hmm. I was planning on not spending more than ~$150. The guy who has the B&O hasn't responded yet, so I guess that's good I...- spartan777

Looking at used turntables
I was about to call the guy, when the Vintage Dual posting got pulled. I ordered the Green Grado cartridge, and am picking up the B&O soon. I'd still be interested in trying another turntable if its cheap. And if there's anyone in the Milwaukee area with vinyl to sell, let me know...- spartan777

picking between headphones for gaming
You definitely don't need a new PSU for a little soundcard. They use hardly any power. I would suggest getting a soundcard, integrated sound is usually horrible, at best sub-par. I have the x-fi elite pro blah blah, which is pretty good, until it had a s**t last week (sounds like it got blown...- spartan777

One for you cable fans!
If I care about using my money to improve the sound of my music setup, then yes. People who suggest I purchase something do have the burden of proof on them to at least give a coherent explanation of why something will improve my sound. Advice (as in blunt truths) for confused (ex?)-"audiophile"
phork, the 'emperor's clothes' parable fits perfectly the cable issue. If some people get a kick out of spending $2000 or whatever on a cable, that is their prerogative. however, if you really do care about acoustics and that sort of thing, then scientific studies are what you ought to follow...- spartan777

cyroparts don't understand their own process?
