Hmm strange, it might be because our Shure's have different sensitivity or our hearing is hugely different. I am never able to go to Red as it would be near bursting the drivers in my opinion. Its very very loud and its near to red and not entirely red yet. For me there is minimal to no hiss...

Just got the Apple Camera Kit this evening and tried it out with my iPad Air and used my OTG cable on the Note 10.1 2014 Edition. Both works perfectly!
