MG Chemicals solder
Anybody have experience with MG Chemicals solder? I was about to pick up a roll of the well known Kester44 but its currently out of stock at Mouser. I guess MG Chemical solder is quite new as I cant find any information on it, its not very expensive as well. ...- basb

DIY case out of epoxy putty, hotglue, or heatshrink?
Although you said you don't want it, I recommend the standard hammond box, it's really small - with the usb and coax cables attached to the pcb, it is a tight fit and it looks really neat.- basb

Using gain to set balance (PPA)
Thanks for replies! I'd like to keep the feedback resistors socketed so I can easily tune the gain later on. So I will solder a pot in parallel with a feedback resistor to set the balance, then measure pot+resistor and pop a resistor with the combined value in the socket. My main concern was...- basb

Using gain to set balance (PPA)
Hi all, I'm about to build a PPA (board is ordered, thanks Tangent!) and had an idea, I searched the forums but couldn't find a single post about it: I have a slight hearing imbalance and was planning to add a balance control, but what if I socket the R4 resistors and use them to set the gain...- basb

Opera Consonance Cyber 30 Headphone/Intergrated Amplifier
The 2a3c's get very good reviews and are supposed to outclass other chinese tubes. I've seen them for less than 200 and plan to pick em up myself soon! For example: Shuguang 2A3C Vacuum Tubes (Matched Pair) [2A3C] - $99.00 : Musical Paradise - Audio Art And a bit more expensive: Röhren...- basb

Opera Consonance Cyber 30 Headphone/Intergrated Amplifier
Thanks for the replies. I checked information on my fostex speakers (fe167e), nominal impedance is 8 ohms but impedance ranges from 16-8 ohms throughout the frequency range so that won't be a problem I guess. Will try the 16 ohm taps. Just like gundam91 I also hear slight hum during quiet...- basb

Opera Consonance Cyber 30 Headphone/Intergrated Amplifier
I also have the cyber 30 and agree with Bostonears: best to use high sensitivity speakers. I use fostex full-range speakers and senn HD600 headphones and love the sound. However, I do have a question to other cyber 30 owners: The speakers and headphones are connected simultaneously to the...- basb

About the volume control, the amp I tried has 3.5w/channel and 9 o'clock on the volume dial was already a little too loud so that wasn't the problem.- basb

Valve amps. Better to leave on, or switch off and on?
Regardless if leaving the amp on 24/7 is good for tube-life, consider the cost of electricity. My amp consumes about 80 watt and a new set of tubes costs +/- $130, I don't think leaving the amp on to prolong the life of the tubes a few hours makes any sense, not considering the potential fire...- basb

The Stax thread (New)
Here is an update about a question I had somewhere earlier in this thread, I was waiting for this amp, opera cyber 30. I bought it to power my HD600, diy fostex speakers, and hopefully, srd7pro with lamba pro. According to the replies it's possible, but without enough voltage swing. I'm right...- basb

FUBARII and Cute Beyond op amp qu.s...
They take 1 opamp each, as the opa2227 is a dual opamp. I use the opa2107 in my spitfire and cute beyond, a good upgrade. I also have the opa2111 but haven't tried it yet, it should also be ok to use in firestone products. When getting opamps for the cute or fubar always make sure to buy...- basb

Regarding using a tube amp with a transformer box i found this: http://www.blackdahlia.com/tipindex/...rsonal_amp.htm The microzotl, 1 watt/4 ohm per channel, with the srd-7 pro apparently gives satisfying results. I ordered an opera cyber 30 a few weeks ago, it uses 2a3 tubes, 3.5w /...- basb

http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/t-amp_e.html "One can use the t-Amp as headphone amp, with caution: first of all, there's no output jack so one has to adapt the speakers posts to a female jack. Secondly, frequency response rises at the highs as the load increases. Tripath claims the output...- basb

Would Senn phones still be popular if they only sold for retail?
I don't know the official retail price of the hd600, but i would certainly pay it if necessary for a replacement. OTOH, I wouldn't buy a grado even if I could get a 80% discount , the value of a headphone is very subjective. Bas- basb
