DAP shopping---HiFiMAN HM-700
I don't really know how to describe it. But the sensation is somewhat analog to listening the beatles' songs after you've listened to modern pop songs. Maybe this is related to the use of Sigmatel STMP3770 but I'm not certain...- billliu

DAP shopping---HiFiMAN HM-700
This is not true. The newer HM700 shipment will give you two short interconnect cables: one for you to connect popular (unbalanced) iems to HM700; and one for you to connect RE400B to other (unbalanced) players. However, I think the tone or sound of the HM700 is more old-fashioned and you...- billliu

Cowon EH2 Review
I've tried this IEM. At first I connected to an iPod and I felt the sound signature to be strange. However, I connedted it to the Cowon's own Z2 DAP then. The sound was great and they seemed to be a complementary match. It may be tuned for Cowon's own DAP. I heard the album from Lorde and...- billliu

So what the heck do protable amps do?
The portable amp usually does not amp the volume large enough but will change the sound to some extent. The sound change is noticeable if you can compare them objectively. Whether the changed sound is to your taste is very subjective. So you better try it before you make your purchase. If you...- billliu

It's 2013, who still like their EP-630?
I've owned the EP-630 for more than 5 years and I still love it! I also bought EP-830 about two years ago. These two IEMs have somewhat different sound signature although the driver may be the same. For basshead, EP-630 is suggested! Both were of great C/P values and very durable...- billliu

What determines the resolution of a headphone?
I think the resolution may be related to the decay of the sound. Think of the signal input as an impulse. If the resultant sound has slower decay, it may mix up with the subsequent impulse. IMO, the resolution is higher if the sound decays more quickly.- billliu

Philips SHE3580 IEM review--how can something sound so good for $10???
I listened to SHE3580 for a few days. It's great for the value. However, there seems to be a drawback. The frequency response in the range 5k-10k is rather high... making some music sibilant or noisy.- billliu

Review: Fiio E12 (comparison to C&C BH + JDS Labs O2 + JDS Labs C421)
E12 seems to be a little warm. A more neutral or cold source such as J3 may be more suitable. I hope the pricetag can be a little lower in Taiwan.- billliu

Philips SHE3580 IEM review--how can something sound so good for $10???
Interesting topic!! I agree that it doesn't have to cost much to enjoy an earphone. Many factors can be adjusted thru softwares! Thank you a lot for showing us this! We should throw away the concept that higher price = higher quality!- billliu
