can a 4.4mm to 3.5mm balanced cable have TS connection in the 3.5mm end ? i read that ts is only for unbalanced ,im confused please help
Ooohhh is that why the plug in the photo has 5 contacts then? I get it now. But is one of the signals actually passed over the shielding? Is that not weird? Or is it two wires inside? Looks like your fine =]- adamlr

Its been a while since I've worked in the industry, but as far as I know the tip passes the signal and the sleeve is for the shielding and goes to the ground, which is why you need three contacts, so trs. In order to pass a balanced signal. t and r would pass the + an -, with the sleeve...- adamlr

Trying to decide between (ANC wireless iems) Sony WF-1000XM4, Bose QuietComfort and maybe the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 - does anyone have experience with these?
The list of options was narrowed down to these three because they can all be sourced locally and are in my price range. Honestly I'm pretty sure the senns aren't it, as I'm given to understand the sound is on the brighter side with a somewhat lacking soundstage and its also unclear to me whether...- adamlr

Advice/resources needed - looking to turn dt770s into portable headset (recable and modding the headband).
Darn, well, looks like I can't do this thing then eh? I would like to point out that I purchased the dt770s about a decade ago and at the time I was looking for a desktop set, using an amp, so I had no problem with the impedance. They served me well. I was only going to try and make them...- adamlr

Advice/resources needed - looking to turn dt770s into portable headset (recable and modding the headband).
So its been 6 months since I started an office job and my hands itch for some tinkering (used to be a technician). I had the idea of modifying my pair of dt770s to make them travel friendly. I need advice on two subjects: 1. I would like to recable them, preferably with a cable that has a mic...- adamlr

do you turn down from the amp or the computer? why?
I was wondering where you guys (i wonder if the guys i used to talk to are still here after all this time) turned the volume down from. I for example, have a chain as follows: laptop - Odac - O2 - headphones. I turn the amp up to 1 Oclock, the laptop at around 50%, and i use foobar as the main...- adamlr

i feel abit embarrassed for asking this online in a forum, i feel i should be able to handle this myself, but im looking for a 3.5 mm stereo jack to be soldered, with a 1/4" inch adapter that screws onto it, like the one that comes with the DX00s. the one on my dt 770s has failed, i looked all...- adamlr

ive never actually recabled a headphone, but lets think about it.. the cable terminates with a stereophonic jack, which means it would have 2 wires inside, left, right and ground.so i imagine the other ends, those that fit in the earcups, would be left+ground and right+ground. i dont imagine...- adamlr

you know what? that actually makes batter sense (about the baffles), infact come to think of it, the baffle is what separates the front end of the driver, the end that "sends" the sound to the listener, and the back end of the driver that emits roughly the same signal in an opposite phase...- adamlr

im not disputing what you said. i have never heard a d5k or a th-x00 so i cant say for myself. but keep in mind that the driver isnt the only thing changing the sound. cups, pads, depth of cups, damping materials, etc. all make a difference. if you compare the d5k and the d2k, youll see...- adamlr

thats truly brilliant! im interested about the cups - are they modified "darth beyer"? completely custom? did you take the regular plastic cups and saw off the top bit, adding the wood ontop? what about the whole, urm, "construct" holding the driver in place, is it from the xb1000...- adamlr

i always imagine skream as like a "father dubstep" who gave us the gift of dubstep, only to then have it turned into "brostep" a few years later, ruining all the fun.... he will always be one of my favorites i like testing subs with this one doesnt go quite as low - but it does...- adamlr

1. find a wide, flat rubber band, place it on the screw head, push down as hard as you can with the screwdriver and try unscrewing. 2. try and find a flathead screwdriver that would fit exactly right in the screwhead, and try using that. 3. fit the plastic part of the headband into a vice...- adamlr

getting my first high end files,i have an mp3 collection, what files do i need? and will i have to start over (my colleciton) + my setup!
i get the feeling this doesnt really belong in the music forum, but nonetheless... Vividcard is making a good point. this is your first step into "audiophile" land. and your leaping in with top tier gear. be sure you educate yourself properly first, and make sure that the set you decide... -

headphones first - definitely. just make sure that the pair you get arent "hard to drive". for your budget there should be plenty of options. as a non gamer, who listens mostly to electronical music, i can personally vouch for the v-moda m-100, who are slightly above your budget at ~300$...- adamlr

mate. a "sinusoidal" wave is another way of saying "sine wave". a sine wave alternates between positive and negative polarity at a given frequency. i guess you could say that a sine wave "alternating" at 0 Hz is like a direct current - but thats just a backwards way of seeing it. a smooth...- adamlr

the driver works by pushing air. it moves forward, and backward. an ac current, say a sine wave at 1 KHz will make the driver move backwards AND forwards 1000 times per second. a dc current doesnt alternate - direct current. feeding a driver dc current will make the driver move backwards only...- adamlr
