    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I never used the headtracker even when I used the Stax combo. In the early days of my A8, I would mute a left or right channel and then vice versa and that would lock me into the illusion very well.

I just started looking at this thread after being away from it a bit. I looked at the last page and saw a discussion on IEMs with the Realiser. I use the Ultimate Ears Reference Remastered IEM with the A16 and it is better than using the Stax combo I originally got with the A8. No HPEQ...

School of Rock - Legend of the Rent (The 18th Musician Mix)

I love this movie and Jack Black's a cappella Legend of the Rent was the best scene. There is an awesome new cover of it on YouTube. School of Rock - Legend of the Rent (The 18th Musician Mix)

I am thinking of selling my A8 which I got back in 2013. I am the original owner. It is the HDMI version. It has seen little use over the years and works great. Comes with all accessories (but not the Stax combo it came with since I am keeping that for now :)). I was going to keep it as a...

Thanks. The manual states the following: GAME port – for a stereo headphone output signal and mono microphone input signal (3.5mm 4-pole socket)

Does anyone else have trouble with the "Game" port on the front? I hear nothing when connecting a headset to it. Is that something that has yet to be activated?

On the topic of room correction, I used Dirac to measure and correct my listening room. I use Dirac's VST plugin to apply the correction to all audio output from my main source (JRiver). Works well. I use my A8 and now A16 mainly to create a set of impulse files for loading into a convolution...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Please note that OOYH is simply a software implementation of the same processing that the A16 provides. The creator used the A8 to create impulse responses of certain PRIRs and then OOYH applies those impulse responses to incoming audio much like a standard convolution reverb plugin. If you...

In reply to Broke's posts, the Realiser is indeed a different beast when using your own PRIRs. But I think the room is the most important. Just like listening to expensive speakers in a poorly treated room is unsatisfactory, the measured room has a big impact on Realiser satisfaction. I have...

Perhaps its the particular IEM then. I use the UE Reference Remastered IEM and find it to be flat and transparent enough not to require a HPEQ at all. In fact, I prefer to use that IEM with no HPEQ over Stax with a HPEQ.

You are absolutely right. I use IEMs and remember the first time I got everything to work and loaded some converted files on my phone. Before, I was tethered to my desk with the Realiser, but now I could simulate my listening room anywhere. I was possibly more excited than when I first got...

I had never heard of Equalizer APO but after a quick glance it looks like it would work, at least for serving as a virtual sound card to apply the effect to all audio. Jriver can also be used a a virtual sound card in Windows if I recall correctly. I am more familiar with Mac where if I want...

Just an interest check to see if anyone would like more information on how I go about converting my PRIRs for use "offline" with JRiver or similar programs (with no need to use the A8 or A16 to get the same effect). I am thinking of putting together a short tutorial on how I create the impulse...

Has anyone noticed oddities in the SPDIF output levels? I understand it is variable. But I have set the volume to 79 and then even adjusted it in the setting menu to 99, and the output level seems low. I also had to make sure the device I was connecting was set to 48khz or else there was...

I can try to make one. I did this years ago with my A8 and was going to again with my the A16 when it soon arrives. That would be a good time to document the process.

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

There is no need to do that. It is much faster to make a PRIR a convolution file and use a program like JRiver to apply the convolution and bake in the effect on a song by converting the song to another file with effects added. You can basically add the SVS processing to any file in seconds and...

I usually use my computer as a source. In my treated listening room I used Dirac to make an impulse response which definitely improved things. I use the Dirac Live VST/AU plugin to apply the room correction to whatever my computer is playing because the Dirac processor software itself was not...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Longtime A8 owner patiently waiting for my A16 shipment notification. Apologies if this was mentioned earlier in this thread, but is the processing done by the A16 to create the PRIR still 48kHz? I know it can accept higher bit rates similar to the A8, but the A8 then converted that input to...

Out Of Your Head - new virtual surround simulator

On the topic of the 48KHz limit, I had the same reservations as I can easily hear the benefits of higher bit rate.  I have a lot of hi-res music both stereo and multichannel, so I didn't want to have those benefits wasted.  YMMV, but I was pleased to find that higher bit rates still sounded...

Which custom IEM to get after UE-10 Pro?

I have been enjoying my UE-10 Pro's for almost a decade now, and am thinking of stepping up to something even better.  I like the sound signature of the UE-10.  I do notice they are slightly metallic and slightly congested, especially in the upper midrange.  I wonder if the newer models from...

Out Of Your Head - new virtual surround simulator

If anyone is local to the DC area and has a nice speaker setup (preferably in a nicely treated room with room correction), i would be happy to talk about doing a custom 7.1 PRIR for you using my Realiser in exchange for letting me do my own PRIR there. You could use your PRIR with Darin's Out of...

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

Just came back from a quick trip to LA and San Diego to get PRIRs done at AIX and two places arranged by darinf (Acoustic Zen and PBN Audio).  I have had the Realiser since last February, but this is the first time getting custom PRIRs done.  I have enjoyed using one of Darin's Acoustic Zen...

New JH Audio flagship! "Siren Series Roxanne"

Been playing around with the universals and not quite as veiled and with more body.  But i have to really push them in and back so that they touch more of my outer ear.  That gets them closer to what must be their normal sound, but still not there.  I am thinking the universals will never sound...
