Closed. Flat response. Soundstage. Does something like that exists?

Quote:   This is true--I often forget that I have an employee discount ;) My mistake. At least you can probably demo them there if they have a Magnolia Home Theater section.

Closed. Flat response. Soundstage. Does something like that exists?

My local Best Buy carries both the AKG K550 and A-T A900X, and I'd recommend either one, although they sound quite different.  I own a pair of SRH840's that I would consider analytical and I very nearly stepped up into SRH940's but went for a more fun (i.e. not analytical/cold) sounding...

MalVeauX has got to be the nicest most clued up headphone enthusiast on here, Such a nice guy

He helped me with two headphone purchases (including my first) and which DAC/amp to buy as well.  I now have (and love) my Denon D5000's and FiiO E10.  Great guy, kept up in PMs with my nitpicky questions as well.  Always happy to see his posts... wonder what he does to get all that headphone...

What has sound like a Shure SRH840 but more comfort?

I personally just switched from the SRH840 to Denon D5000.  The comfort is a huge improvement, and so is the sound.   I think my ears are a little warmer (thus, potentially sweatier) than they were in the SRH840's, so this may (?) increase your itching problem.  YMMV of course. Bass is...

Thanks very much everyone.  Denon D5000 it is! :)

    My next step up?

For the large majority of what I listen to, I don't perceive bass being a requirement.  The "metal" I listen to is 98% symphonic/melodic power metal (primarily Scandinavian) which isn't very bass-focused.  Granted, my headphones up to this point have been bassy/warm (QC15's and SRH840's) with a...

    My next step up?

Quote: Hey MalVeauX!  You're super helpful :) I know you have the SRH940's and the D5000's.  I read your review on the SRH940's.  Based on that, I was wondering if that might be a very good option for me as well, considering that I want to have the intimate vocals you described in...

(Yet another) beginner's rig recommendation thread. Yes, I have searched.

Yup, my onboard audio was pretty noisy, so I needed the DAC to clean it up.  Even so, I get an improvement on that same DAC from my desktop PC, which has a decent dedicated sound card to compare to. This could be sampling bias, however, because my DAC (FiiO e7) is also an amp.  Then again...

(Yet another) beginner's rig recommendation thread. Yes, I have searched.

I'll be watching this thread closely as I'm very interested in the results.  I'm pretty much at your level of knowledge, so I don't have much to contribute, although my impression from browsing these forums for a while now is that you will, unfortunately, probably have to buy multiple headphones...

Best Headphones for me (Under $150)

As an owner of the SRH840's, I'm very pleased with them, but my musical spectrum is fairly focused.  They have good bass impact when amplified, but they're supposed to be driven easily regardless.  I don't feel like bass is their strong point.

Hey all, I currently have a pair of SRH840's with a FiiO e7 & e9 combination.  That was my first voyage into head-fi, and I've had them for like half a year, maybe longer, but I'm looking to move up. I listen to a lot of Scandinavian metal, like Sonata Arctica and Nightwish, and some...

Recommend me a pair of headphones for at most $150?

The Senn HD25-1 II is your best bet.  Amazon has them listed for a few dollars cheaper than the Crossfades right now for a new pair.   http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD25-1-II-Closed-Back-Headphones/dp/B000TDZOXG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1328735694&sr=1-1   Good luck.

    USB DAC/Amp for SRH840's

I currently have an E7 + E9 combo that I really like but I know the amp is 10ohm and the headphones are 44ohm.  Should I be changing my setup to accommodate that?  My computer does not have a great sound card and I'd rather have an amp/dac than a sound card because I have a laptop I plug into it...

Comparison of four closed cans - M-Audio Q40 vs. ATH-M50 vs. Shure SRH840 vs. GMP 8.35 D monitor (In progress)

I'm looking for a headphone that is a little warmer and more "fun" than the SRH840's I currently own.  Circumaural, closed, under $300 ideally, comfortable enough that I can get home after a long day at work and just throw them on and chill out with some energetic music running, really get into...

Looking for my next step--or should I take one?

Hahaha--I'm being naughty, I was cut a fat check by my university and raked in a bonus at work, plus my paycheck coming in on Friday, so I have a good few thousand dollars of very recent income.  I'm in my research phase though :) I'll have to check those out.  I'm afraid of going too...

Looking for my next step--or should I take one?

Not really.  I'd -like- to keep it under 200, but that's not a hard rule here.  Absolutely has to be below $400, but beside that, anything goes as long as you can sell it to me. ;)

Looking for my next step--or should I take one?

Yeah, I've heard about the Grados and I've considered it, but I really can't do open cans--too many people in my house. :)  I mean, I probably could, but I don't really want my music being blasted out at everyone near me.  Dunno, just makes me uncomfortable. If someone has an argument against...
