24 db boost in the sub-bass? Heck why not just go for 50 or even 75. Make it an orgy of bass. Now I dont know if that makes it a best headphone -- or even a best bass. Maybe the most bass if the tones are not totally wrecked in distortion.

Yes its hard to know where your treble is if the bass is walking all over it.

For $300 you could get the B&W P5 which are light and comfy and are generally evenly balanced in sound. Ditto the Beyerdynamic DT-1350 which are less bright than the P5 but also reasonable in comfort and have a wide range quality sound. Both are very well made and on-ear and I think both are closed.

This is great stuff. One persons listening preferences may be just that but when many headphones are compared in such detail much useful information emerges.

I have heard the HD800 described by a few people as slightly bright but you are the first I have heard to say sharp and harsh. Must be some really bad source material. And youre right that the 1350 suckout is only "10 additional db" below normal. But then 10 db below normal is a lot.

And just so you dont get the wrong idea I hope you are right about the 1350 and I am wrong because I so much wanted to love that headphone and buy one to keep. The bass is to kill for. If it turns out to be highly regarded I will retrain my brain to love the new kind of sound.

And BTW the notion that the general public would prefer a "rolled off" treble isnt supported by any statistics I have heard. Rolled off treble on a low budget peaky crappy sounding headphone maybe. But you dont get Sennheiser HD800 sound for cheap. I cant even imagine if HD800 sound were...

I have done those comparisons over a 3 day period and feel quite confident that the DT1350 has a serious lack of output in the range of 3 to 7 or 8 khz. But if you have really good hearing sensitivity in that area then you might be good with them. I did feel that the sound was very smooth but...

Oh yea I have two sets of the DTX300 and a PX200ii and PX100ii but all those others I borrow.

BTW the other user reported a 17 db dip at 7 khz but actually its 25 db. Look at the midrange "middle A is 440 hz" at plus 7 and a half db then down 25 db from there.

It isn't just the measurement at Innerfidelity that has a big dip in the 3 to 7 khz area or there about its what I heard also. Maybe it isnt fair to compare to the Sennheiser 800 but just for balance sake either the 1350 has a big suckout in that area or the 800 is boosted bright in that area...

If you've been in big quakes where the earth feels like its liquifying and the waves are in total control then you will know its not "light bass".

The HD600 sounds very veiled compared to the HD800.
