Yea, with the 650 I have the volume knob sitting at 12 usually, but of course it depends on the recording.

Also, I should add that I have only tested the single ended output, I haven't even tried it through balanced, and it still sounds very impressive.

So I pulled the trigger on the V181, Ive been listening all day and it sounds absolutely excellent.  It sounds significantly better than the Yamamoto HA-01 with a variety of headphones if that helps anybody...

I would like to add that this amp is much more beautiful in person than the pictures show.  The build quality is tremendous, very Japanese in the attention put into the craftsmanship and fine details.

I posted this in a similar thread a few minutes ago, but I have owned the Pro 650, Pro 750, Pro 900 and Edition 8.   For your needs,  I would recommend the 650, because out of all of those headphones it has the most prominent sub bass.
