The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread
It was noisy at Canjam so I couldn't properly audition the Shangrila. But all I can say is, their amp was a bit underwhelming, the tubes were leaky and hissed a lot.- koonhua90

E-Earphone. 007A is not in stock now but you can just write to them or call them to get one in stock before you go there to pick it up. Many thanks to Arnaud and Currawong and a few others who recommended E-Earphone to me. I got good deal for the 009 as I reserved the last unit in store...- koonhua90

The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread
Price of a pair of new SR-009 if bought in Japan directly: US $ 2500 You could fly there to buy it and it still will probably cost you less. I asked my friend to get it for me while he was traveling in Japan. But for the 007 which I once owned many years ago, this time around I will fly...- koonhua90

New Grace Design m920 DAC/amp with DSD decoding
Here is a better pic. I am starting on the Megatron build soon, but it's rather costly. 12 tubes beast. I have to DIY because I cannot afford to buy amps like BHSE. I miss my O2 Mk1. Should never have sold it.- koonhua90

New Grace Design m920 DAC/amp with DSD decoding
Mine arrived today. This is so good, it fits all my bill, I could now drive my Dynaudio speakers and my HV amp (bypass, no volume pot) using the m920 as a pre-amp. The ODAC single ended output into the KGSSHV had distortion, I am not sure why, and it made the sound grainy and harsh. A class...- koonhua90

I have been away, am back. But I don't spend as much time browsing and looking for headphones now. I am settled for now with this. I have a pair of HD600, and the 009, I think they will suffice. One I could use to watch movies, and transport it with me, another I could sit down with and listen...- koonhua90

The Stax Thread III
I built it last year and waited a year before pulling the trigger. Now JPY is going up, I figured I should get one before it goes up more. I used to have the Omega Mk1 with SRM-T1 which was modified by Spritzer, a Stax 507, LCD-3 and ATH-W3000ANV close to 4 years ago. With the Omega Mk1...- koonhua90

The Stax Thread III
I waited for this for 4 years. Heartfelt thanks to Stax mafias. I have had much explosions when making the HV, this time I plugged the 009 into it and it..... exploded into some great music. The downside is, I seem to hear a lot of background details which I hadn't heard before. All...- koonhua90

The Stax Thread III
I don't always post, but when I do. I have been away for a long time now, since I sold the 007 MkI, which I regretted dearly. So last year I made the HV, albeit with much explosions. I couldn't have completed the build if not for the fact that I received tremendous help from the Stax mafia...- koonhua90

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
There is a 3 dots Braille thingy on the left side, at the front of where it says HD 600. That's how one can differentiate left and right in the dark. I have always been confused until I found the dots.- koonhua90

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
Put it this way, I think if I am listening to classicals, or listening to music at a very low volume, I'd prefer the stock green filters. At louder volume where our hearing curves flatten out, I'd prefer the red filters more. With the red filter, the ER4S is still less dark than the HD 600.- koonhua90

I think if one has money, save up and skip all the mid range stuff. Stick with the ER4-S + custom tips and get a pair of Stax SR-009. Listening to electrostats has always been quite the revelation for me.- koonhua90

None of the provided stock tips sound as good as the custom tips, as the bores are too small. Even with custom tips, there are differences. I have two pairs, one with longer bores, one with shorter bores. The one with shorter bores sound better, as it allows a deeper insertion and as a...- koonhua90

OK...I thought the filters come in pairs, but nope you have to buy each of them. Each is each. I bought 3 reds... The stock filters have plastic housing. The Knowles filters have metal housing. Those things are tiny. Since it's metal it's tougher to put it into the earphones. Some force is...- koonhua90

Quote: Did you use the same audiologist? Maybe should try another one. Based on some graphs here, http://sonove.angry.jp/FitEarToGo334.html, it does seem like the ER4S rolls off to close to 6dB SPL down to 30Hz. Are you running stock green filters? I have some red 2.2kohm...- koonhua90

Then you might have had a bad earmold done. I am talking about custom tips, not custom earphones. And the material that's used to make the tips makes quite a bit of differences too. Why not just get custom tips and be happy? Less discomfort than rubber tips, and no itchiness on the skin. It's not the easiest thing to achieve the same seal everytime and therefore, same SQ everytime listening to the ER4 using conventional tips. With the Westone tips that I have, once...- koonhua90

First post in like 9 months. ER4S with HD 600. In recent years I have gone a bit old school. Nothing much really surprises nowadays. Some of the newer BA earphones are decent, but most have some obvious flaws, and the measurements tell. Some are grossly overpriced. I once heard...- koonhua90
