iPod for Windows Mini-review
I just got my iPod for Windows (20 GB version) today. In the SF Bay Area, one can get them at CompUSA and Fry's Electronics. So, here's a short review for those of you who, like me, were anxiously waiting for an officially supported iPod for Windows. Test system - Athlon XP1700+, 512 MB...- edog

PMDP vs. PCDP (headphone out)
What do people here think of recent MD players' headphone outputs vs. recent portable CD players' headphone outputs? For example, how would the sound from a Sony MZ-E900 compare to a Panasonic SL-CT780's headphone out? I know that the Panasonic has a more powerful headphone out, but I'm more...- edog

Best rechargeable 9V's for Porta Corda
I was wondering what rechargeable 9V's I should use to get the optimal performance out of my Porta Corda. I've seen the Plainviews, but I don't like the fact that they need their own charger, and that the charger (at least from the one picture I've seen of them) only takes a single 9V at a time...- edog

Quality in-line volume control
Can anybody point me to a reasonably high quality in-line volume control? I need this to replace the extremely crappy digital volume control in my PJB-100. So, what I would do is set the digital volume to full on the PJB-100, and use the volume control to provide volume attenuation. I've...- edog

Plano 150-MD storage
I recently got my hands on the Plano 150-MD storage case, and I really like it. I needed something that would fulfill the following criteria: - compact - could store lots of MDs - could store MDs with or without cases (i.e. has to have a lid to keep out dust) - durable - good fit for MDs...- edog

Just got Sony MZ-E900... wow!
I just got the MZ-E900 MD player for ultraportable listening and.... wow! I've been using an MZ-E90, which has served me very well. However, it had one major problem: very noticeable hiss with or without the remote. The MZ-E900 solves this problem for me. The lack of hiss just makes everything...- edog

Using an MZ-R700 with an amp
Is it worth it use the MZ-R700 with a headphone amp, or are the internal electronics noisy enough to cause me headache when amplified further? I'm trying to decide what MD to buy next, and I like the MZ-R700 quite a bit (good price/performance ratio). I just want to be able to use an amp with it.- edog

Sony MD player longevity
I was wondering how long Sony's MD players tend to last. I've had my MZ-E90 for two years, and I've used it quite heavily throughout that time. It's still working flawlessly. Now, I'm pondering whether i should get an MZ-E900 before the MZ-E909 is the only high-end Sony player that's...- edog

MZ-R900 / MZ-R909 remote hiss?
I currently have a Sony MZ-E90 MD player that I really love. However, there is one slight problem: when my Ety 4P's are plugged into the remote, I hear a background hiss during the quiet portions of the song. Connecting the Ety's directly to the headphone jack (no remote) makes the hiss go away...- edog

Dance/electronica suggestions?
I've recently gotten into dance / electronica music (I'm new to this stuff, so please forgive incorrect use of terminology), and so far, I like the following CDs: * BT_ESCM (by BT) * The Mirror Conspiracy (by Thievery Corporation) * Tourist (by St. Germain) * Out There and Back (by Paul... -
Why does headphone impedance matter?
I have a question for the Head-Fi gurus: why does headphone impedance affect a headphone's sound? Why does it have any effect on anything other than loudness? I do understand that higher impedances block out more of the hiss from the source, but there seems to be more to it than that. For...- edog

cmoy battery life
How much battery life should I expect out of a standard cmoy with a Panasonic pot with a: 1. standard 9V alkaline battery 2. Energizer 7.2V 150 mAh NiMH rechargeable I've only used rechargeables, and the battery life was disappointing. Should I expect a big increase in battery life if I...- edog

Expanium 503 at Good Guys
Today, when I took a trip to The Good Guys, I saw that they had the EXP503. Feature-wise, it's totally beaten by the Rio Volt SP250 -- except that it has AAC playback. However, has anyone heard how it sounds? Here's The Good Guys' web page for the EXP503...- edog

Amp construction questions
Now that I've finished a cmoy amp, I have some questions for the gurus on this board (I'm very new at this stuff, so virtually everyone's a guru compared to me): [list=1]What tips can you recommend for drilling holes that are aligned with one another? I tried to align them visually, but that...- edog

Finished my first cmoy amp
What a sense of accomplishment I feel right now! I just finished constructing a basic cmoy portable headphone amp (by far my largest electronics project thus far), and it sounds wonderful through my Grado SR-60's and Etymotics ER-4P's w/ Dan Pumphrey's 4P-to-4S adapter, driven by my Panasonic...- edog
