What do people here think of recent MD players' headphone outputs vs. recent portable CD players' headphone outputs? For example, how would the sound from a Sony MZ-E900 compare to a Panasonic SL-CT780's headphone out? I know that the Panasonic has a more powerful headphone out, but I'm more concerned about overall sound quality. Output power is just one dimension of that.

Also, I record all MDs using my Sony MDS-JB930 deck (ATRAC Type-R) fed by my Marantz CD-6000OSE player (using a digital coax cable), so MD recording quality shouldn't be an issue.

Generally speaking the headphone out on my Sony R-900 MD recorder is about the same as my Sony D-915 Discman. Both are reasonable and, when used with efficient headphones such as the 888's and the Ety 4P's go plenty loud enough.
