Android phones and USB DACs
Startech looks like this: http://ca.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Sound/USB-Audio/USB-20-to-Audio-Adapter~ICUSBAUDIO Matrix Mini is this (but this might be a slightly newer version) http://www.matrixelectronics.net/matrix-mini-i-c-66.html Both work fine with my Samsung S3 and both...- Warpkitty

Android phones and USB DACs
I upgraded to Android 5 on my Nexus 7 2012 (sideloaded using adb as the OTA wasn't being pushed). Native USB audio does not work with the two DACs I tried (cheap Startech thing and Matrix mini.) With cyanogenmod both DACs work fine.- Warpkitty

+1 Integration with BubbleUPnP would be a major win for UARP.- Warpkitty

Use a standard USB DAC with a Nexus 7 (step by step guide)
I thought I'd chime in here too. Got the USBROM and after a few self induced screw ups I got my Nexus 7 to easily recognize my Matrix Mini and a cheapo Startech USB DAC. Using BubbleUpnp I'm streaming FLAC files flawlessly to my stereo.- Warpkitty

$350CAD HERUS: Asynchronous USB Audio 2.0, 24bit 352.8Ks/S, DXD and DSD64/128, 2.4VRMS Headphone DAC
Herus looks nice. Here's an OTG cable I found for a few bucks: http://dx.com/p/micro-usb-male-to-usb-b-male-otg-data-cable-black-25cm-233994?tc=CAD&gclid=CL_Ut-TygLsCFYY1QgodN1sAng Any reason why it might not work with a Galaxy S3?- Warpkitty

Quote: Here we go: http://www.head-fi.org/t/223263/the-stax-thread-new/23010#post_9532138 I just received the 252II and the Stax "certified" wall wart was rated at 400ma so this one should be fine. I'm also using the little amp to drive the SR-407s and it's very nice indeed.- Warpkitty

Recommendation, Best DAC with Usb/ Optical imput under $200
No toslink on that one though. If you want to stay in the pro audio world you could try this: http://www.amazon.com/Roland-Cakewalk-FA-66-FireWire-Interface/dp/B003UVWU5Y a bit over $200.00 but has optical in (but no USB!). I had one for a while and it's nice, but runs hot. The...- Warpkitty

Quote: I just got my SR-407s yesterday driven by an SRM-252II. I spent a long time comparing the Stax to my HD600s and Woo WA2. The 407/252 combo is really nice and I would have to say on most material clearly superior to the 600/Woo combo.- Warpkitty

The Stax thread (New)
So my Stax system arrived a few hours ago. I got it from elusive disc with their 10% sale and it consists of an SR-407 and a demo SRM-252 II. Been listening to some Beethoven violin sonatas and some Vivaldi as well as some music that I've written. This is very good stuff.- Warpkitty

The Stax thread (New)
Two part question: Can anyone tell me what the output impedance of a Stax amplifier is? Any Stax amp is fine I just want to get an idea. The only thing I've seen that has this spec is the Mal Valve Three which is apparently 600 ohms. Also, does it make sense to use the same...- Warpkitty

By way of some background I picked the Jameco wall wart for you because it was the same spec (power, barrel size,) as what this guy ordered: http://www.head-fi.org/t/447175/stax-2050a-srm-252-information Jameco changed their part numbers, but I looked at both data sheets and they...- Warpkitty
