    USB cable does length matter

You can get "Actively boosted" usb cables that have a bus powered one-port hub built in to re-transmit the signal (no mid-run power needed). For long runs, I alternate between 16' passive and 16' actively boosted cables. USB spec's a maximum of 5 hubs in any system; I've never tried more than...

Need suggestion: USB output device for HD555

I too am highly interested in what other low end options there are. I just got a E-MU 0404 for my mains, but I have a couple other places I'd like to run USB to and wire up sound for, and I'm looking for more USB stereo outputs to do that with.

Computer/Stereo one room, Stereo in 2nd room - Want best sound

An optical s/pdif is your best bet. Failing that, you can get a cheap usb sound card that'll do decent 24-bit 96khz sound and run a mix of 16' active usb extension cables and 16' usb extension cables the length of the run you need. (the "active" cables have a built in one port hub that...

Need 2.0 Computer speakers with small size? $50-150 range....

Think Outside BoomTube... in compact form its like a slightly overlong yet thin thermos. I've had one for quite some time. After putting my huge ass stereo in storage for a while, it was my only sound system for ~2 years. I only just recently purchased some RC-10's as replacements, but the...

    Portable Grado Amp

fyi, i'm going with OPA2228. looks like a really nice amp. i'm researching whether to go with a simple a47'ish current doubling system, or whether to use a buffering setup ala pimeta. probably the former; looks a little simpler.

    perf board v. pcb

a significant amount of the projects i spy use perfboard. i dont really know jack about perfboard. but i do know and like PCB. is there any electrical advantage to perfboard, or is it just that you dont need to etch a perfboard? thanks Myren

    Portable Grado Amp

will a decent pair of caps reasonably stabilize a dc-dc convertor? someone on diyaudio suggested using an inductor to stabilize the line as well. i'll have to go dust off my old basic circuit theory text book to go remember what they do. i'm leaning once more towards an A47. thanks...

    Portable Grado Amp

I understand the power supply problem. I've been aiming to use double a's since I have 24 NIMH's I paid a mint for. From the start, I have been planning on using a DC-DC convertor. The goods ones out can get ~96% efficiency, or so I'm told. I'm still not sure how exactly I'm going to get...

    Portable Grado Amp

I'm looking to build an amp to run inline between my mp3 player and Grado SR 80's to turn this: into Currently my volume levels are just too low, and the sound starts clipping like a mofo when the volume is all the way up. I had some schematics I was looking at using, but a lot of the amps...

    Portable Long Lived Grado Amp

I'm looking to build an amp for my Grado SR-80's. My electronics are finding them quite challenging. They definately need an amp. I've seen a good number of designs, but their reported battery lives are always absolutely attrocious! Criminal numbers! 8 AA's and maybe 10 hours battery life...
