    JDSlabs Element III impressions

@HeyWaj10 The parametric bass and treble controls currently allow custom frequency and gain adjustment. There is no support for notch filters, yet. The XU208 is limited to processing 2 bands/filters in real-time. If there is adequate interest, we could replace the treble filter with a notch...

    JDSlabs Element III impressions

Thanks, Oscar. I've been MIA from Head-Fi for too long! Head-Fi is still a great resource for new releases and impressions, and we're jumping back into CanJam to better support ZMF. As far as I'm concerned, the objectivity race ended a couple years ago ;) Since it's likely been missed here...

    JDS Labs ATOM Amp

@moriez - Thanks for your email and link. I recall the recent message from your retailer. Please find my unedited response from Aug 23 pasted below: Hi Steve, Thanks for bringing this customer concern to my attention. Yes, all Atom enclosures exhibit the marks you have identified. These are...

Original JDS Labs element different from newer ones?

Please see our FAQ: B-Stock amplifiers and DACs contain brand new electronics. We classify enclosures as "B-Stock" when accidents occur in production. This usually means someone scratched or dropped a part, or it may exhibit small engraving or anodizing defect(s). Most cosmetic errors are...

That is true! Some batches of OL DAC were also built with OPA2227. All USB Editions are built w/ NJM4556.

JDS Labs EL / OL DAC Owners (AK4490EQ DAC's with filter switch)

@junki EL DAC's feet must be removed to access screws leading to the circuit board. OL DAC is a simpler choice if you wish to experiment with filters.

JDS Labs EL / OL DAC Owners (AK4490EQ DAC's with filter switch)

All JDS Labs DACs are configured for adaptive USB mode. Jitter performance is equivalent when set to asynchronous mode in modern USB-to-I2S controllers, yet, asynch has introduced bugs in the past under some operating systems. Yes, it's okay to change the DIP switches while the DAC is powered...

JDS Labs EL / OL DAC Owners (AK4490EQ DAC's with filter switch)

@jseaber I know both DACs use a AK4490EQ as the D/A chip, but I was wondering if there's anything different in the analog output stage between the DACs? I see that the EL DAC uses OPA2227 opamps, but no such information is given for the OL DAC. If you're around and can chime in, it'd greatly...

    O2 AMP + ODAC

No, the difference is unlikely to be noticed except under extreme conditions.
