Rechargeable AAs
Rayovac doesn't disclose the detail of its charging scheme for their chargers. But PS1 and PS3 must NOT be doing simple "capacity sensing" scheme. When I charge multiple cells of same type/capacity, each cell completes charging in different time. They most likely sense the delta-curve to...- jedai

Rechargeable AAs
The current version of Rayovac PS1 and PS3 chargers do have trickle-charge after the main charging cycle is complete. I agree that PS1 may take long to charge high capacity AA cells from empty. But PS3 is much faster and takes quite reasonable time to fully charge any size/capacity of cells. BTW...- jedai

Rechargeable AAs
Rayovac PS1 and PS3 chargers are affordable ($10 and $20, respectively) and widely available. They have separate charging circuits (and LEDs) for each cell and stop automatically when fully charged. See the following manufacturer link. http://www.rayovac.com/products/recharge/chargers.shtml...- jedai

PortaPro rattle
It also happended to my KSC-35 recently - rattling static on loud passage. I opened the foam cushion and blew the driver both inside and outside. It seems to cure the problem. Blow the driver and then check if the problem is gone. Hope it also works for your PortaPro which uses the same kind of...- jedai

I never would have believed it... (Solid state burn in)
Well, solid-state manufacturing isn't perfect as any other manufacturing. There might be some chemical residue in the solid-state, some mobile ions hanging around, some moisture near metal-ss contact junctions, some atomic scale obstacle in the current paths, etc. When power is applied to the SS...- jedai

NiMH mAh question
Rayovac 3-In-1 NiMH/NiCd/Alkaline charger is another quality charger that costs only about $10 and is widely available. It has four independent charging circuits (which is unusual in this class) and each circuit automatically stops when the cell is fully charged. I have great results with...- jedai

Great tweak for X-Cans V2
Beagle, the polarity doesn't matter as the adapter output is AC (alternating current). So, don't worry; it won't fry your X-Can .- jedai

Headroom Airhead = Big Disappointment
Hi crymsonsunset, could you try the CDP's headphone jack to feed Airhead instead of the line-out? I am suspecting that the under-used line-out connection might be faulty. My Panasonic CDP had poor connection on line-out that caused static and horrible sound when connected to a headphone amp...- jedai

Porta Corda in Canada
Jan told me we don't pay import duty for items under US$250, and I didn't pay the duty tax for my Porta Corda order. Well, this is for USA, and I am not sure for other countries.- jedai

Battery recharger for Grado RA-1 9v battery
I have Rayovac 9V NiMH battery which measures 9.6V when powering my amp. So Plainviews is not the only one giving higher than 9V. The Rayovac is also least expensive in places like Wal-Mart at $6.97. The Plainviews may have higher capacity though (and more $$). Mine charges fine on old NiCd...- jedai

Background Hiss With X-Can???
I had the same experience as BenG: noise peaked at 11 o'clock in my case. Also when I slightly knock my finger on headphone jack, volume knob, or power jack in the back, I hear some funny (filament vibration?) noise on headphone which eventually fades away. Out of curiosity, I opened my...- jedai

Porta Corda: Did I blow it?!
David, I would first check if the 9V battery is still good. When the battery is dying, you may experience some strange things including annoying static noise. BTW, the CD player headphone output can't damage your Porta Corda by hooking it up into Corda's input.- jedai

Power supply for the porta corda
anishbenji, 1-3A powersupply is way too excessive for porta corda which only consumes average 10mA on 9V battery according to Jan. Even if the corda consumes somewhat more for higher supply voltage, that's still excessive; one tenth of it should be more than enough in my opinion.- jedai
