Magni 3 Impressions
After just over a month of owning, the pot on mine has started exhibiting this behaviour where letting it sit in the same position for a day or two gets it "stuck", and it requires moderate pressure to make the first turn after a while. It's also started making an obnoxious scratching noise...- dukeReinhardt

Magni 3 Impressions
Thanks for indulging me ^^" I thought the point of "input sensitivity" is that it's a set measurement of the voltage required at input for an amp to reach its maximum rated power. I've read various sources have varying output voltages from phono (200mV) to CD (2V), and certainly from reading...- dukeReinhardt

Magni 3 Impressions
I'm trying to figure out how clipping works, and I think I get the idea, but there's some parts which I'm not sure about. In fact I only feel moderately confident in any part of the following.. So clipping from source -> pre-amp -> power amp -> speakers/headphones can occur in the following...- dukeReinhardt

Magni 3 Impressions
Is there any way to know the maximum capabilities of the Magni 3's preamp? For example if you feed a typical 2V line in, I think the headphone amp runs out of power at the far end of the HI gain (obviously not before you've died). But is the preamp also clipping? Presumably it clips at some...- dukeReinhardt

Magni 3 Impressions
Thanks for all the input! So, to summarize: 1. Pot imbalance at low levels is a defect, but sort of common among cheaper volume knobs. 2. Rattle seems to be from a manufacturing tolerance issue on switch casing, not a huge problem. 3. RCA connections being loose is in fact a serious defect...- dukeReinhardt

Magni 3 Impressions
Lol really.... Thanks, certainly worth knowing my unit is defective, albeit slightly. I'll think about it. Not really sure I want to go through the returns process :/- dukeReinhardt

Magni 3 Impressions
Just got my Magni 3. I have some issues, none of which is particularly big, but wanted to ask whether it seems normal. 1. RCA connectors seem relatively loose compared to the death-grip on my speaker amp and source. 2. Volume pot has a few degrees of dead zone - as in, when changing direction...- dukeReinhardt

Beyer just told me their current stock deliberately looks like this, with the 10 degree more bend in the yokes.- dukeReinhardt

Hmm.... My new 600ohms came in and the yokes on them are a good 5-10 degrees more bent (on both sides!) than my 250 ohms and other pictures of the 'phones online. They sound normal, so hope it's all good.- dukeReinhardt

Headphones dropped, now one side louder
I dropped my DT880, and now the left side is much louder than the right. I'm guessing no, but is this something that may return to normal after some time? If not, what is it likely that I have to replace/repair, the cable or the right side driver, or something else?- dukeReinhardt

My practically brand new dt880s are making a very tiny paper rustling type of noise from the right ear between 10-20hz. Wouldn't have noticed it unless I'd decided to do a frequency sweep. Anything I can or should do about it?- dukeReinhardt

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
Question about build quality: are the aluminium strips holding the cups to the headband meant to move, wobble, and twist in their plastic sockets so much? I'm sure these headphones will last a while with care, but I have to say I'm a bit surprised at how they feel in the hand. Not that I care at...- dukeReinhardt

I just got the premium version of this headphone, and it doesn't really form a seal around my ears, even on my rather large head... something worth trying to remedy? Or not really an issue with semi-opens?- dukeReinhardt

Effect of output impedance of a source and realistic headphone impedance
OK, I'm finding it difficult to entirely understand the effects of source output impedance and headphone impedance on the frequency curve. In essence I would just like to know enough about impedance matching to help me be competent at buying audio gear. What I understand is that in...- dukeReinhardt
